  • There are 25,000 one arm amputations in the USA each year.
  • There are currently 350,000 Americans with Amputations. 30% of which have upper limb loss. 30% of 350,000 is 105,000.
  • Wrist and hand amputations 10%. 
  • 70% of upper limb amputations have amputations from the elbow down.

CAUSES + DEMOGRAPHIC

  • 54% of limb loss is due to vascular disease including diabetes and peripheral arterial disease. 
  • 45% is due to trauma. Less than 2% is due to cancer.
  • African-Americans are up to four times more likely to have an amputation than white Americans.
