Imagine this:
You wake up at your normal scheduled time one day to realize you have the day off at work. As you happily start making your favorite breakfast & thinking about how you’re going to enjoy your day you get a phone call.
It’s work.
Your boss (the nice one you like) named Susan insists that you please come in because they are short staffed, and you’re just such a fantastic worker.
Dreadfully, you say yes and head in on your day off because you can’t say no to Susan, right?
Or
You mom drops into town for a surprise visit on your busiest day of the week. She says, “I know it’s last minute and you may be busy, but you have to come and get lunch with me since I’m in town”. Despite the fact of having set lunch plans with your friends & having an important assignment due right after lunch (which you planned on finishing between now & then) you tell your mom a timid “Yes, of course” without regards to your own life plans. How could you say no to your mom?
We all experience it.
In one form or another, we often get dragged into doing tasks we don’t want, going to see places/people we don’t want to see, and just sacrificing our time, plans, and goals because we can’t say “no”.
If I had to count up the time I have wasted throughout my life watching a best friend’s, cousin’s step-dog (I know, right?) or other random, meaningless tasks (I should have said “No” to) I think I would have to bang my head into a wall.
So, please do yourself a favor and at least skim through the rest of this site to glean some knowledge on how to reclaim your time!
