The Workshop on Innovations in Cantonese Linguistics (WICL) focuses on new advances in Cantonese Linguistics, including innovations in methodologies, tools, and/or computing software. New approaches and research on language variation within the Cantonese (or “Yue”) subgroup of the Chinese language family, language contact phenomena, and new subfields and their interfaces are especially welcome.
WICL has been held every other year since 2012. The inaugural event — the very first Workshop on Innovations in Cantonese Linguistics (WICL-1) — was organized and held at The Ohio State University in spring 2012. It was followed by WICL-2 at University of Chicago in spring 2014. Returning to Ohio State on March 12-13, 2016 was the 3rd Workshop on Innovations in Cantonese Linguistics (WICL-3) and the impetus for the creation of this dedicated WICL website. The following WICL event, WICL-4, was held in summer 2018 at University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada.
WICL-5 returns to The Ohio State University in April 2020, to be held in conjunction with our department’s DEALL 50th Anniversary Celebration! Stay tuned!
