Important Reminders – Junior Fair Entries can be turned in tonight (July 31st) and tomorrow night(August 1st) between 5pm and 8 pm at the Junior Fair Office.  All Junior Fair Entries for your club should be turned in together (top white copy only) in alphabetical order by the organizational advisor or a representative of the 4-H Club.  Also, if your club would like to have a booth in Building 10 (Jr. Fair Building) please submit your booth space request form to Stephen Heppe at the Extension Office by 4:30 p.m. on August 1st.

Last chance for Quality Assurance and Skillathon – July 29th (Please note if a youth has attended one of the previous two nights of Quality Assurance & Skillathon and is planning to attend the last night to complete Skillathon for any particular species he/she has not yet completed – he/she must bring a completed 2014 Skillathon score sheet with him/her to bypass the Quality Assurance station).

4-H Dog Game Night (Fun Show)

Friday August 1, 2014 at 7:00 pm
Wayne County Fairgrounds – Sheep/Swine Show Arena

Bring your dog for a fun evening of games and prizes! We will have games that include, “My Dog Can Do That!”, Simon Says, Musical Chairs, What Dog Is That? and a Rally course game.

Junior Fair Entries

WAYNE COUNTY JUNIOR FAIR ENTRIES ARE DUE BY AUGUST 1st!

All Still, FCS, Livestock and Cloverbud projects coming to the fair must be entered by August 1, 2014.

Marcia Brueck, Junior Fair Secretary, will accept Junior Fair entries at the Junior Fair office on:
Wednesday, July 30 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Thursday, July 31 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Friday, August 1 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.

THESE ARE THE ONLY TIMES AND PLACE THAT JUNIOR FAIR ENTRIES CAN BE TURNED IN!

Advisors please note:

1. Members must put the school codes on their Junior Fair entry forms. This makes it possible for the Jr. Fair Secretary to send excused absence notices to the members’ schools.

2. Sheep and Goat project members must put the Scrapie number on the Junior Fair Entry Form.

3. New this year:  Members should fill out the special penning request form and turn it in with their fair entries to let the committees know of any special penning requests such as housing Jr. Fair animals with open class animals, Market Hogs that were raised together and could be penned together, etc.

Please make sure your members are aware that Showmanship entries need to be made for the following species:  Swine, Sheep, Goats, Rabbits, Poultry & Horses. If members do not sign up for their Showmanship classes on their Jr. Fair entry forms, they will not be able to show in the Showmanship classes at the Fair.

Wayne County Fair Outstanding Volunteer Service Award

The Wayne County Agricultural Society (Senior Fair Board) will recognize individuals and/or groups nominated for Outstanding Volunteer Service to the Wayne County Fair.  Annually the top 5 nominees will receive a certificate of appreciation, they must have served a minimum of 20 years, and the selection shall be at the discretion of the judges appointed by the Wayne County Agricultural Society.

The nomination forms may be picked up at the Wayne County Fair Board Secretary’s office during normal business hours or downloaded by clicking the link at the bottom of this blog post.  The forms must be completed and returned to the Wayne County Fair Board Secretary’s office or mailed to the following address:

All nominations shall be submitted by the 1st day of August each year.  The top 5 (winning) nominees will be recognized at the Fair Board’s annual appreciation banquet in August.

State Fair Passes for Jr. Fair Horse Youth

Barb Prince from the Ohio State Fair sent the following message regarding State Fair passes for youth that are participating in the State Fair Jr. Horse Show.

Your county is one that we were unable to mail back the single day ticket for your Junior 4-H Horse exhibitor. Any youth arriving on Monday or Tues. should not need a ticket…beginning Wednesday(July23) the following procedure is to be followed…The youth arrive at Gate 10…a copy of the county list as submitted by the county educator will be used to check for the youth’s name…NO TICKET WILL BE REQUIRED if the youth’s name is on the educator’s list…If you would happen to have an issue please call Barb Prince 614-644-4052.

Gate 10 is located on 17th Avenue near the Gilligan Livestock Complex.  To access Gate 10, take I-71 South to Hudson Street.  Exit at Hudson and turn right (west) onto Hudson.  Then turn left (south) onto Summit Street.  Take Summit Street to 17th Ave and turn left (east) on 17th Avenue.
