National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month

Teresa Fedor (D), Ohio House of Representatives

Rescheduled for February 10, 2015

3:00-4:00pm Thompson Library Mortar Board Room

Note: Representative Fedor will not be able to be with us do to a last minute scheduling change for the House Education Committee. We are thankful that Representative Fedor’s office arranged for Michelle Hannan, Director of Professional and Community Services, Salvation Army of Central Ohio, to speak with us in her place.

Rep. FedorRepFedor has actively worked to end human trafficking in Ohio since joining the General Assembly. The Governor signed her legislation to create a penalty enhancement for human trafficking into law in 2009. This legislation also created a task force to study the problem within the state. Human trafficking became a stand-alone, second-degree felony in Ohio in 2010.  In 2012, the Governor signed  the Safe Harbor Act (H.B. 262), Rep. Fedor’s most comprehensive human trafficking legislation to date. Rep. Fedor’s current focus is on H.B. 130, the End Demand Act, a bill that among others includes harsher penalties for the solicitation of minors.

University Libraries has invited Rep. Fedor to talk, read, discuss, or share artifacts from her personal experience and/or University Libraries’ collections related to her involvement in human trafficking awareness and prevention.
