Program Cost

The cost of the program is $2850, which includes three (semester) hours of OSU graduate tuition; room and partial board (breakfast and dinner daily) with a Panamanian family in Panama City; short excursions in and around Panama City; an all-day visit to the Emberá Majé Drua indigenous community; an all-day excursion to Guna Yala (aka the San Blas Islands); most course materials; supplemental travel health insurance; and airport pickup and drop-off at the international airport in Panama City. The costs of round-trip airfare, standard medical insurance, personal expenditures, and textbooks will be additional.

Non-residents of Ohio are not required to pay any additional costs to cover out-of-state tuition for this program.

Financial Aid

The Summer Seminars in Spanish are special OSU “contract courses” taught with the support of Extended Education, an enrollment unit in the Office of Technology and Digital Innovation. Since participants enroll for three credits through the Graduate School and receive regular graduate credit on an OSU transcript, certain loans and scholarships might be applicable to the cost of this program as well.

Teachers from Franklin County (Ohio) public schools will be offered a $600 credit towards program fees, bringing their program price down to $2250. If you are unsure about your eligibility for this discount, please contact ssast@osu.edu.

Full-time community college and MSI/HBCU faculty are eligible to apply for Professional Development Grants to offset costs of the SSAST program. Please contact CLAS Assistant Director Leila Vieira at vieira.31@osu.edu for more information.

Medical Insurance

All students participating on OSU study abroad programs will receive supplementary medical insurance through GeoBlue or a comparable carrier at no extra charge. Students are required to maintain their regular insurance coverage while participating in the program as well. The provider and terms of the health insurance for education abroad are subject to change.

Excursions and Special Events

In order to offer a wider perspective of Panamanian life, the program sponsors excursions to sites of historical and cultural interest, lectures by visiting scholars, and other events. Such activities take place regularly and are included in the price of the program. Click on the Itinerary tab above for more specific information about planned activities.
