Research Development

Recently this semester, I began in the Department of Surgery lab. While here, I was able to learn many new research techniques under Dr. Subhadip Ghatak in Dr. Sen’s lab. I am planning on continuing this experience next semester and using some of the techniques I learned in the lab I am joining over the summer. Above is my lab notebook pictured.

The picture I took this semester on campus allows me to realize how many opportunities Ohio State has given me. From research to volunteering, I can always find something that interests me here. Although I was first unsure of what I was coming into last semester, this semester has allowed me to develop new friendships and help me blossom into the leader I know I can be.

My Goals:

Global Awareness: Through organizations such as Global Brigades and Physicians free clinic,  I have developed a great appreciation for diversity. Previously not having experienced a free clinic, volunteering in downtown Columbus has allowed me to recognize the diverse population with a multitude of languages being spoken.
Original Inquiry: I am currently very interested in pursuing research here at OSU. This semester I worked in the department of surgery lab and learned many research techniques that I hope to be able to further develop in the future.
Academic Enrichment: While at OSU so far, I have pursued academic enrichment through challenging myself to many difficult classes. This has inspired me to always strive for my best and taught me various study techniques.
Leadership Development: I am currently on the board of Dinners with Doctors where students organize dinners where physicians come and share their advice with interested students. Through AED, we have just started planning this great event. I am also involved in helping to plan pen pals, an organization dedicated to reaching out to the Columbus community.
Service Engagement: I am currently a volunteer at the James with Restful nights, Physicians free clinic volunteer, American Red Cross Club, and I am going on a service trip to Honduras this summer to help aid in triaging patients, etc.
