A Celebration of Excellence in Community Service and Scholarship

University awards will be given for the top partnerships in the International Engagement, Community Engagement and Service-Learning categories. Below you will find more detailed information about the awards for each category. The top partnership will be selected from these three categories to serve as the university’s nominee to the regional Outreach Scholarship W.K. Kellogg Foundation Engagement Award. The regional winners will then compete for the national C. Peter Magrath Community Engagement Award.

This year’s award categories are:

Service-Learning Award (Emerging and Distinguished): Presented to a faculty member who demonstrates outstanding achievement in connecting learning with community service, delivering useful service to a community partner, developing leadership and citizenship skills among students, engaging in exemplary community-based research, and/or fostering appreciation for diversity.

Staff Award for Excellence in Community Service Engagement: Presented to a staff member who demonstrates superior commitment to developing, coordinating, and/or sustaining projects, activities, or courses involving Ohio State students that enhance student learning and make a positive difference in the community.

Excellence in Community Partnership Building Award: Presented to a community agency/group/institution that demonstrates excellence in collaborative work with university students and faculty, resulting in a partnership that produces positive differences in the community and enhances student learning.

Student Award for Excellence in Community Service: Presented to recognize exceptional records by students providing community service, based on judging of an essay written by the student.

Student Organization Award for Excellence in Community Service Programming: Presented to a student organization that has successfully partnered with a community agency to sponsor an outstanding community service program.

We will also be honoring other outstanding service practitioners from the Ohio State community. We hope that all of our service-learning friends and colleagues will give us the opportunity to honor them for the great work they do at this event.
