Artifacts

I think an artifact that represents my first year experience, and college experience in general would be a Rubik’s cube.  I think this perfectly represents this experience because at first glace everything is in extreme disorder, and the solution seems impossible.  This is equivalent to a first year student having doubts about their, college selection, major, roommate, grades, classes, the list could go on and on.  With all of these doubts and negativity in mind it can be very easy to have no hope.  As time goes on the cube starts to become a bit more ordered and some colors start to line up.  This is equivalent to how first year students slowly begin to figure things out and get into their stride in a college lifestyle and environment.  Grades start to rise and the student becomes more certain about their career path and passion.  Then as even more time passes the cube becomes almost complete and just needs the finishing touches.  This is equivalent to the last few years in undergrad or graduate school.  The student is almost completely confident in what they want to do and it is just a matter of time before they get to go out in the real world and do it.  Finally, the cube is solved and everything comes full circle, the student that was so doubtful is now triumphant.  Their self confidence is through the roof because they remember where they started.  So now looking back, I would encourage incoming students to look at their college years as a Rubik’s cube and to embrace the process, because it’s only a matter of time before you find the solution.

About Me

Hello everyone, my name is Zac Robinson and I am finishing up my first year at the Ohio State University.  I am from Wauseon, Ohio which is in the far northwest corner of the state, about a half hour away from Toledo, Ohio.  Coming to Ohio State has been one of the best decisions of my life.  I have made so many new friends, connections, and have to opportunities to take part in many great things thus far.  Academically, I am currently an Exercise Science major with aspirations to earn my doctorate in Exercise Physiology and one day hopefully perform research on athletic performance.   As far as my personal interests, I really enjoy athletics, music, and spending time with my friends.  Overall, I can not say enough about how happy this university has made me and I strongly recommend that all students give The Ohio State University serious consideration in the college selection process.

Year in Review

Looking back on my first few weeks here at OSU it has really made me appreciate being a part of the Dunn Sport and Wellness Scholars Program.  Normally, for a new student in they might have one friend that they know on campus that they can talk to about a varying array of topics.  The great thing about my situation was that I was able to move in early and get to know some of my fellow scholars on a much more personal level.  The relationships that were built during welcome week have lasted and turned into some of my best friends.  The first year scholars are a very close knit group that really resembles a family in my eyes.  I can talk to them just as if they are one of my best friends I’ve known my whole life.  This has made the transition from high school to college practically seamless for me.  I am so excited to see what our scholars program is able to accomplish over the next few years!  One highlight that I think was an amazing opportunity that I am excited to participate in next year was the buckeython dance marathon.  Not only was the dance marathon extremely fun, it was for an amazing cause.  The Dunn Scholars program in conjunction with many other students raised a very significant amount of money for cancer research.  Overall, this year has been great and I’m extremely excited to see what the future holds for myself, and the Dunn Sport and Wellness Scholars program as a whole.
