In addition to studying abroad at least once during my time here at Ohio State, I fully intend on expanding my global awareness through facets accessible here on campus. Currently, I am part of the APIDA Cohort which is a mentorship program that enables the Asian-American community to discuss and participate in social issues. Too, I volunteer for Asian-American Community Services (AACS), which is a non-profit organization that aims to empower Asian-American representation in politics and voting.

   Being a neuroscience major on the pre-med track, I crave incorporating additional humanities-based fields of interest into my academic life. Through pursuing a history minor, I desire to take discussion-based classes surrounding contemporary world issues as an another means of practicing global awareness. Also, I would like to reach a level of fluency in Spanish by furthering my knowledge in language classes and perhaps studying abroad or taking part in service trips in a Spanish-speaking country like Spain or Guatemala. A unique fellowship and mutual understanding accompanies being empathetic with others unlike ourselves, and I am thrilled to expand on this notion during these next four years and beyond.

   Within the year, I hope to acquire a position in a research lab on campus. I am not particularly picky about what topic to research; rather, I am excited to simply contribute new research to the scientific community. Along with scientific research, I would also like to get involved with journalism on campus. In high school I was highly involved with multimedia journalism and journalistic writing; creating films, taking film classes, or contributing scientific writing at OSU would allow me creative outlets to compound my sense of original inquiry.

   Declaring a minor in history while being a STEM major was my way of attempting to satisfy my inclinations towards studying diverse topics and exploring my interests. Outside of the classroom, I am hoping to develop mentorship relationships with faculty members. By developing such invaluable relationships, I hope to look beyond the letter grades and percentages that often come to mind when considering academic enrichment and instead look towards real-word application, and honest, salt of the earth curiosity.

   As a first-year student, I hold no current formal leadership positions in the organizations I am a part of. However, I practice leadership qualities by committing my all to whichever subject I choose to invest myself in whether it involves service, academics, or club participation.

   During undergrad, I intend on becoming deeply involved in service to the Columbus community and Cincinnati community. In addition to volunteering for AACS, I would love to participate in service trips run by Remote Area Medical (RAM), an organization that provides free medical services to areas lacking access to healthcare in the United States. Back in my hometown of Cincinnati, I would like to continue regularly volunteering by serving patients and entertaining residents with music at Meadowbrook Care Center. Service engagement is a portion of G.O.A.L.S. that I am particularly excited to emphasize as an undergraduate student and member of the global community.
