President’s Postdoctoral Scholars Program

The Ohio State University President’s Postdoctoral Scholars Program (PPSP) seeks to recognize outstanding young researchers at the university and aid in the recruitment of highly-qualified postdoctoral fellows who will become leaders in their fields.  The program supports further scholarly training of PhDs and terminal degree holders who wish to pursue careers in research and creative expression and provides professional development opportunities and faculty mentoring. Salary support, benefits (health insurance, paid leave), and research related and program travel expenses will be provided by the Office of the President (OTP) and the scholar’s faculty mentor/sponsor college.


Funding

Awards will provide salary support, benefits (including health insurance) and up to $5,000 for research-related and program travel expenses.  Each award is for a minimum of 12 months and may be renewed for an additional term upon demonstration of academic/research productivity and adequate career development as evidenced by successful implementation of the mentoring plan.

Awardees must be appointed as Postdoctoral Researchers with a minimum salary of $50,000 per year and a benefit rate 33.2%

Year One:

  • The Office of the President (OTP) will provide $50,000 to be used towards the salary and benefits and program support of $5,000 per year per scholar
  • The faculty mentor/sponsor college must guarantee the remaining amount to cover salary and benefits

Year Two:

  • The OTP will provide $35,000 support toward the total compensation (salary and benefits) and program support of $5,000 per year per scholar
  • The faculty mentor/sponsor college must guarantee the remaining amount to cover salary and benefits

2019 Competition Award Timeline

  • August 13, 2018: general call (for letter of intent (LOI) and nominations)
  • November 1, 2018: LOI due
  • December 3, 2018: Nominations due
  • December 10 – January 18: review period
  • January 28, 2019: First round of notifications
  • Mid-February, 2019: Final announcement of winners*
  • Award begins no later than January 1, 2020

*This is a tentative date that will depend on how quickly we get acceptance to the initial and subsequent sets of offers
