Management Skills for Scientists

Dr. Carl Cohen, the president of Science Management Associates will be leading a series of workshops based on his book, Lab Dynamics: Management and Leadership Skills for Scientists. Dr. Cohen has more than 30 years of biomedical research and management expertise. He provides coaching, consultation and training in interpersonal, group, and organizational skills to scientists and science executives in both the public and private sectors.
These workshops are highly interactive and there is significant emphasis on attendee active participation in the form of role playing exercises, group-as-a-whole discussion as well as small group exercises. Case studies and examples used during the workshop focus specifically on situations common to scientists in basic academic biomedical research. Participants will receive printed copies of all slides and didactic materials for future reference.

- “Difficult conversations and interactions in the research workplace: “Fundamentals of negotiation.”
- “Leading scientific team and project meetings.”
- “Hiring and retaining your science team. Selecting, interviewing, and orienting.“
- “Managing your science team: Setting goals, giving feedback and evaluating scientists, technical and administrative staff.”
