Organic On-Farm Educational Day sponsored by Organic Farming Conference.
David and Emily Hershberger will host an educational day on October 23, 2015 starting with registration/check in at 8:30 a.m. and the day will conclude at 3:00 p.m. The farm is located at 5119 TR 613, Fredericksburg, OH. The sessions will start at 9:00 a.m. with Alan Guebert, author of The Land of Milk and Uncle Honey and columnist for Farm and Dairy as the leadoff presenter. The rest of the day will feature break- out sessions around Organic Farming, and will include a farmer round table discussion on the challenges and opportunities of 2015 on their organic farm; Shane Hartzler will share “What Are His Agronomic Practices on His Organic Dairy”; “Walk with The Farmer On His Farm” with host David Hershberger. Mike Lilburn from The Ohio State University’s Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC) will offer a session on “Adding Poultry to Your On-Going Organic Farm: Pastured Poultry.” Other talks include “Fly Control for livestock” and” Foliar Experiences by Ohio and Indiana farmers”. Jane Siemon from Wisconsin will be doing sessions on“ Setting an Organic Table”; “Beyond the Canner and Freezer”; and “Unhealthy Diets: Moving to Eating Healthy”. Jane is a dairy and produce farmer as well as an educator focusing on healthy eating and value of organic foods and using foods as health benefits.
The cost for the day is $10.00 per person and children under 5 are free. Snacks and lunch are included in the registration cost. Organic local food will be served.
