Kaustavi is a dancer-choreographer-educator, scholar, performing and teaching well over the past decade. Dedicated to serving the Indian classical dance form of Odissi for over twenty-five years, Kaustavi Sarkar is a disciple of Guru Pausali Mukherjee, Guru Ratikant Mohapatra, and Guru Sujata Mohapatra. Kaustavi started her journey under the able tutelage of Guru Amala Shankar in Uday Shankar India Culture Center where she trained in Kathhak, Manipuri, and Kathakali for fourteen years. She also studied Bharatnatyam under Guru Mousumi Bhor for ten years. Both her choreography and writing build conversations across academe, performance, and business. She has performed in numerous dance festivals and conferences in the United States, Europe, Australia, and Asia. She is based in Kolkata and is currently completing her doctoral studies in dance at the Ohio State University in Columbus. As a third year doctoral student at The Ohio State University, Kaustavi is a dancer-choreographer-educator, performing and teaching well over the past decade. She is the Artistic Director of Kaustavi Movement Center, an organization dedicated to transnational propagation of Odissi dance. She has an interdisciplinary research interest involving Practice-as-Research, Arts Entrepreneurship, Digital Humanities embedded in critical cultural theory. As the founder of two student organizations at the Ohio State University, Odissi at Ohio State and Multicultural Center for Embodied Aesthetics,she employs entrepreneurial measures for building an Odissi fraternity. Both her choreography and writing build conversations across academe, performance, and business. She has performed in numerous dance festivals and conferences in the United States, Europe, Australia, and Asia. She is currently working on the first collaboration between Indian classical dance and motion capture tehnology enhancing the scope of Odissi as inspiration as well as co-creator in the world of 3D animation.
