Clintonville Food Pantry

As a scholars event a couple of scholars students and I went to the Clintonville Food Pantry to help out provide assistance for the evening. This was a wonderful and truly eye opening experience. To help out, the volunteers helped set up, cleanup, and unload the food that was brought in for future dates. It was great to be able to help out, but this experience gave me an insight on how many people, just locally, depend on places like the Clintonville food pantry to get a proper meal for the day. It was very heart warming and a genuine display of humanity where everyone was very kind and generous.

Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

In the future, I wish to provide aid for the people who truly need it; not only to be able to administer medicine to a patient in the United States, but travel to third world countries where hazardous diseases plague the population, where hospitals, doctors, medicine, and other resources are scarce or unavailable. I want to explore fields of medicine and pharmacy to further my knowledge. As a member of the Biological Sciences scholars I am privileged with a very large amount resources that are available to advise and guide me through my time here. The scholars programs provides opportunities to become more involved with the sciences and specialized fields to gain hands on experience and learn more about biological sciences.

To be a successful scholar one must be driven to pursue and accomplish their goals. Challenges for future leaders include getting involved and having a voice that is heard to convey the thoughts and ideas present to make a difference. I have faced these struggles and to overcome them I have learned to simply put myself out there. Getting involved or conveying important ideas is easily attainable when one takes a chance, asks questions, and step out to make a difference and attain successful leadership.

I have a will continue to carry out my vision as a successful scholar. I am still on my path to achieving my goals but I will do all I can and persevere to achieve them. So far I have utilized resources such as scholars events and opportunities get more involved in the sciences and gain more knowledge on what I am pursuing. I have also spoken to my advisors and received advise on the most beneficial path for my future.

Semester in Review

Before my time at as a student in the Biological Sciences Scholars program, I was an involved student; however, the large size of the university campus and immense number of opportunities was very intimidating to an incoming freshman like myself. Becoming a member of the scholars program helped me develop greatly as an individual and as a peer leader. The program made a large campus much smaller and provided opportunities that were more specialized to different interests. Experiences such as volunteering and attending events encouraged me to take initiate and become more involved with the scholar’s program and the events occurring on campus.

Entering the biological sciences scholars program, I was unsure of what to expect and what was expected of me, but the learning community and program itself held me build relationships, connections, and gain insights. Overall, I have matured over the semester and earned more about the program, the university, and myself. Being surrounded by people that are so diverse, but also have similar interests allows for interesting discussions and a variety of opinions that widely expanded my ideas and acceptance to other things.

The personal experience and growth I experienced in only one semester provides perspective on how much room for growth there is, and that it will continue to occur. I’m learning that to facilitate this growth is the most beneficial was would be to be as involved as possible and actively seek out opportunities.

A significant experience from my past is when I participated in science olympiad during high school. This extracurricular allows students interested in science to choose topics and compete in specific subjects of science. I competed in the areas of anatomy and physiology and wind power. This allowed me to delve deeper into concepts that intrigued me like the anatomy and physiology of the human body, but also explore other areas of science and STEM related fields. Participating in science olympiad helped me discover how truly passionate I am about learning about science and that it is what I wish to pursue as a career. This experience gave me the foundation if what I was interested in doing, but since then I have grown to more specifically determine the are of science I am pursuing.

About Me

Hi! My name is Nikhita Nakka. I was born in India, but have lived in Arkansas for most of my life and graduated from Bentonville high school. I am currently in my freshman year, majoring in the Bachelors of science in Pharmaceutical Sciences (BSPS), and am in the Early Admissions Pathway program for pre-pharmacy students. I am also planning on minoring in Spanish because I am very passionate about other cultures and languages and am very interested in beginning this path.

Throughout high school I was very involved through clubs and our community but what I enjoyed most was all the volunteering and service opportunities I was able to participate in. Through National Honors Society (NHS) we were presented with many opportunities to make a difference and help others who needed it. I greatly enjoyed these experiences. Since I was young I was always interested in the sciences and I decided to pursue pharmacy during my senior year of high school.

At Ohio State I believe there are many resources and opportunities for me to pursue my interests. I chose biological sciences scholars because of the learning community and support, along with selective opportunities related to specific interests that are available for students. Personally, I would like to take part in research, internships, and even study abroad during my time on campus. Scholars encourages students to explore and challenge themselves, and I believe characteristics such as my involvement and leaderships will be exemplified simply because of all the opportunities available and because of my drive to achieve my goals.
