Master Gardener Volunteer Class Applications Due December 15

Zanesville, OH–OSU Extension Muskingum County will offer a Master Gardener Volunteer Training Class in 2024. The basic premise of the Master Gardener Volunteer program is to provide training in horticulture to interested volunteers in exchange for 50 hours of horticulture service back to the community. Training will begin on February 15, 2024, from 1:00 to 4:30 pm with conventional classroom instruction.  Program cost is $125.  Applications will be available online at muskingum.osu.edu/mgv or at the Muskingum County Extension Office, 225 Underwood St, Zanesville.  Applications are due Dec 15.

Pesticide Applicator Exam Training Session January 17, 2023

A pesticide applicator exam training session will be offered on January 17, 2023, 6:00 PM, at the Rural Services Building.  In order to obtain a Private Pesticide Applicator License, individuals must pass the exam which is administered by the Ohio Department of Agriculture.  Those who wish to use Restricted Use Products (ODA List) must acquire an applicators license to purchase and apply product. This training is intended to provide an overview of the concepts presented in the exam as preparation.  To register for this exam training session please email martin.2422@osu.edu or call 740-454-0144.

 

Following this training session, the Ohio Department of Agriculture will be present at the Rural Services Building to administer the exam on:

January 25, 2023, 1:00 PM (Exam registration at the ODA Website)

March 29, 2023, 1:00 PM (Exam registration at the ODA Website)

2022 Muskingum County Pesticide and Fertilizer Recertification Sessions

Registration for Pesticide Applicator and Fertilizer Applicator Recertification is now available.  All private applicators due to recertify in 2022 with Muskingum County addresses should have received a notice from the Ohio Department of Agriculture with instructions on license renewal.  Private applicators will also be receiving notification letters in US Mail from the Muskingum County Extension Office regarding opportunities for recertification.

OSU Extension would like to invite you to help plan for the future of Ohio Agriculture by attend the OHIO SMART AGRICULTURE Program on THURSDAY, MARCH 15 from 1:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M in Wooster Ohio. It will be held at the Fisher Auditorium (OARDC North Exhibit Area) located at 1680 Madison Ave., Wooster, OH 44691

This meeting is seeking FEEDBACK from Ohio producers and agriculture stakeholders to help identify, design, and deploy strategies to support SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE in Ohio to feed not only the world, but especially our most vulnerable neighbors right here in Ohio. The goal is an ACTION PLAN for RESILIENT AG. Please join us to share your views and recommendations at this forum. Meet and discuss with fellow stakeholders from the agricultural, environmental, food security and health fields about safeguarding agriculture for Ohio’s future.

Registration Information

The 2018 Agronomy School for Coshocton and Muskingum Counties will be on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Dresden United Methodist Church, 1014 Main St, Dresden, OH 43821. Topics will include disease and pest management, managing harvest data, nutrient management and water quality, and industry outlooks. Light refreshments will be served at 9:00 am and lunch is provided. The program will begin promptly at 9:30 am.

Certified Crop Advisor continuing education credits are available and participants will be provided with a copy of the new Ohio Agronomy Guide, 15th edition.

Cost: $30 per person.
