Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness:

During my time here at OSU, I hope to take advantage of the many opportunities to study abroad. While being at such a large campus has already exposed me to a great amount of diversity, exploring a different country and culture would really allow me to immerse myself in new experiences, change my world perspective, and grow both personally and academically. In addition to this, I hope my course work in the French language allows me to learn more about French culture.

Original Inquiry:

It is my goal to become involved with undergraduate research before my sophomore year here ends. Being able to take part in research of a topic that genuinely interests me will allow me to learn so much about both the research process as well as a subject I hope to continue to pursue. The major I hope to complete also requires me to take two research methods courses, one being an advanced research methods course. This coursework will continue to expand my knowledge of creative inquiry and how to go about starting my own research.

Academic Enrichment:

To ensure I get the most out of my university education, I have picked courses both for my GE credits and my major that I will both find interesting and also relatively challenging. I have already done my best to do this for my first semester as I’ve gone out of my comfort zone to take honors chemistry and linguistics courses, as well as an accelerated math course. To add to my academic enrichment, I plan on continuing to utilize university resources such as tutoring, the writing center, and professor office hours.

Leadership Development:

Being a leader is an important in any profession. To help build my leadership skills, I hope to take up a leadership role in a student organization. It would especially be beneficial to me to acquire this role in a club that I am passionate about, and another way to become more of  a leader would be creating an organization that supports my passions if it does not already exist. It is my goal to become more involved to stand up for what I believe in.

Service Engagement:

Service has always been something that is important to me. Already I have become involved with a volunteer organization called Be the Voice, but I hope to participate in more. Involvement in service organizations can even be beneficial to my career path as I may be able to volunteer at a place I’d hope to work or helping out with a cause that I find important and interesting. I want to do my best to become involved in the Columbus community, using my skills to help others to the best of my ability.
