Jeni Hansen Gard

Jeni Hansen Gard’s current work, Partake Columbus, engages local food vendors and the community through shared meals and conversation. Over the course of thirty-three days participants share daily meals on ceramic dishes made by the artist. Embedded in the glaze of these plates, bowls and cups is a map of Columbus, a symbol of the location that unites all of the participants.

Partake Columbus is on display in the 3rd Year MFA Thesis show from February 21 – March 21, 2015 at the Urban Art Space in downtown Columbus.  Jeni Hansen Gard is a third-year MFA candidate in the area of Ceramics at The Ohio State University.

Tv shows and/or films you are watching
I don’t have a TV so if I watch something it is very intentional. I have a list of food documentaries I have been trying to make it through the past few years. I usually only watch something as a reward for completing something. Not having a TV is the best thing for me. I get very distracted and the rigor of graduate school has made me very aware of what I need to function the best in this situation.

Music/musicians you are listening to
I know this is going to seem bizarre and strange but I do not listen to music. The way my brain works anything that comes in that is not important is a distraction. This means I can listen to music but I probably can’t focus on doing anything else. So I listen to silence and that’s what works for me. I wish this wasn’t the case because I do like music. I especially like when my husband Forrest puts something on the record player. I only know the names of a few of my favorites Gregg Allman and well the Grateful Dead are really nice too. My all time favorite music is Abba and I am a big fan of Mamma Mia!

Colors you are concentrating on

Foods you are eating that influence your process
Blue potatoes available at the Worthington Farmers Market from Wayward Seed Farm

Regimens that you have
Work all day and try not to stop. Mind you this is not a good regimen and I recommend it to no one. When I have time to shower I finish with a vata sesame massage oil.
