Social determinants of health have a huge impact on a person’s life and is a major contributor to health disparities. It includes a wide range of categories such as economic stability, education, healthcare access, neighborhood and built environment AND social and community context. That’s why the US Dept of Health and Human’s services Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion have made social determinants of health a key focus in their Healthy People 2030 objectives. To educate on how social determinants of health impact health outcomes and disease states I’ve invited Dr Kelly Grannan. Kelly is a Med-Peds hospitalist who splits her inpatient time between caring for adults at Ohio State University and kids at Nationwide Childrens Hospital. Additionally she has a masters in public health with clinical interests in Health Equity and Global Health.
