Today on MedNet, we’re going to review the causes and diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension as well as the currently available treatments. On this CME webcast, in the studio, are pulmonary hypertension specialists from the Ohio State University. Dr. Shaun Smith is a pulmonologist and Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine. And Dr. Veronica Franco is a cardiologist and Associate Professor of Internal Medicine.

As a result of this educational activity, webcast participants will be able to: PROVIDE basic determination if a patient may respond to calcium channel blockers for treatment of pulmonary hypertension; DETERMINE when a patient should be started on parental prostacyclins; DISCUSS the hemodynamic definition, classification and epidemiology of pulmonary arterial hypertension; and REVIEW the signs and symptoms of pulmonary arterial hypertension as well as the diagnostic algorithm.
