UNIVERSITY LECTURER IN THE STUDY OF LATE IMPERIAL CHINA

The Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Cambridge seeks to appoint a University Lecturer in any field relating to Late Imperial China (Ming/Qing China). Applications from scholars working in any specialist research field in the study of Late Imperial China are invited to apply, but special consideration may be given to candidates with research and teaching interests in one or more of the following areas: art history, visuality, drama, environmental studies, material culture, religion, and literature.

The successful candidate will normally hold a PhD in China Studies or a related discipline and will have a record of, or clear potential for, outstanding research. The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Engage in high-level research, publish in their specialist field as well as seek opportunities to win external funding for that research,
  • Offer teaching and supervision on one or more of the undergraduate and postgraduate courses that are taught in the Department of East Asian Studies (including on literary Chinese) and in the School of Arts and Humanities;
  • Contribute to the growth of their specialist field and China Studies more generally;
  • Assist with running the Department’s various programmes, including by organizing seminars, conferences, and outreach and impact activities as well as by shouldering appropriate administrative burdens.

The successful candidate will be expected to take up appointment on 2nd September, 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter.
