Kalamazoo College seeks applications for a one-year visiting position at the Assistant Professor or Instructor level in Chinese language, literature, and culture beginning late August 2017. Area and period of specialization is open. Salary is competitive and consistent with level of experience. Teaching expectation is six courses (2-2-2, in three terms), including four Chinese language courses, ranging from beginning to advanced, and two culture courses taught in English.
Ph.D. preferred, ABD considered, and native or near-native abilities in both Chinese and English expected. The successful candidate must demonstrate a high aptitude for and interest in undergraduate teaching. Candidates may be asked to provide a language teaching demonstration video and a writing sample.
Kalamazoo College is a highly selective, nationally known liberal arts college, offering an integrated undergraduate experience that weaves a traditional liberal arts curriculum into educational experiences in both domestic and international settings. The College sends some eighty percent of its graduates on study abroad for three, six, or nine months, including half a dozen per year to China.
