Rhodes College position

RHODES COLLEGE, the Department of Religious Studies, announces an opening for a three-year appointment in Asian Religions, beginning Fall 2017. Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. degree in hand by the time of appointment. The normal teaching load is six courses per year. The successful candidate will teach upper-level courses in Asian Religions needed for an undergraduate curriculum in religious studies. The candidate will also teach first-year core curriculum courses related to the Bible (as part of the “Life: Then and Now” and “The Search for Values in Light of Western History and Religion” programs: http://www.rhodes.edu/humanities). Enthusiasm for and the ability to teach well at the undergraduate level is an important criterion for selection, as is an active scholarly agenda. We also value candidates who can contribute to the College’s interdisciplinary programs, such as Gender and Sexuality Studies, Asian Studies, Environmental Studies, and Urban Studies.

Please apply online at jobs.rhodes.edu. Only online applications will be accepted.  A complete application includes a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, and the names and e-mail addresses of three references. Please address in your cover letter your interest in teaching at a liberal arts college and how your experiences with teaching, scholarship, and/or service might contribute to a college community that includes a commitment to diversity as one of its core values. Letters of recommendation and writing samples may be requested later. Background checks are required before candidates can be brought to campus for interviews. For additional information, contact Prof. Patrick Gray, grayp@rhodes.edu. We will begin reviewing completed applications on January 1.
