National Humanities Center, China Scholars Program call

NATIONAL HUMANITIES CENTER CHINA SCHOLARS PROGRAM, call for applications

With the support of the Henry Luce Foundation, the National Humanities Center invites proposals from scholars at elite universities in the PRC (including Hong Kong) and the ROC (Taiwan) who are Chinese nationals for fellowships for the 2017-18 academic year. The current participating universities are Tsinghua, Fudan, Shanghai Jiao Tong, Chinese University of Hong Kong and National Taiwan University, although we are open to expanding participation.

Selected Chinese scholars will have the opportunity to pursue their research projects in an interdisciplinary and international community in which they can share perspectives and form long-lasting connections with their colleagues.

Established in 1978 and located in the Research Triangle Park of North Carolina, the National Humanities Center is the world’s only independent institution exclusively dedicated to fostering advanced research in the Humanities. Over 1400 scholars from 39 nations have been in residence since its inception and they have produced over 1500 books, many of which have won top awards, including the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, and the Bancroft Prize. Between 35 and 40 Fellows are chosen from some 500 applicants each year. Fellowships at the National Humanities Center are considered among the most prestigious in the world

The Center will provide financial support for housing, a rental car and insurance, and health insurance. The scholar’s home institution is responsible for providing the necessary salary and international travel costs. Excellent spoken and written English skills and the ability to drive a car in the U.S. are necessary.

While the normal application deadline is October 15, we are extending that deadline for this program until November 14, 2016. Further information about the Center and the application process can be found at http://nationalhumanitiescenter.org/
