I’m pleased to announce that we are now accepting applications for our Project Pengyou Leadership Fellows Program at Harvard University on October 7-10, 2016.
Current students at a U.S. high school, university or community college who have lived or studied in both the U.S. and China are encouraged to apply! (www.projectpengyou.org/leadershipfellows)
Fellows will be invited to participate in an intensive four-day Leadership Summit at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA to meet other like-minded young leaders, build unique community organizing skills and learn about cross-cultural leadership in the US-China context. With support from the Ford Foundation, Project Pengyou will cover lodging, food and training costs at Harvard University for all Fellows. A number of travel stipends will also be provided.
Leadership Fellows go on to establish a Project Pengyou Chapter at their school promoting cross-cultural inclusion, constructive dialogue and U.S.-China exchange. Since 2014, we have mobilized a grassroots network of over 40 campus chapters across the United States to advocate for constructive exchanges between American and Chinese people.
We are especially targeting fellows from under-represented regions in the south and midwest, but in general we’re looking for exceptional students who are passionate about their US-China experience, are interested to serve as a leader in their community and build a brighter future for the US and China.

ProjectPengyou.org and the Leadership Fellows Program are implemented by the Golden Bridges Foundation (www.goldenbridges.org). Established in 2007, Golden Bridges is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to build bridges to China that strengthen the sustainability and capacity of community-based nonprofits and individuals to serve, inspire and transform lives.
Project Pengyou was conceived in 2011 as the alumni network of the President’s 100,000 Strong Initiative, and seeks to empower and mobilize a rising generation of US-China bridge-builders. Project Pengyou is seeded by a multi-year grant from the Ford Foundation and has been endorsed by Gary Locke and Hillary Clinton.
Project Pengyou (“pengyou” means friend in Mandarin Chinese) was founded on the belief that young people with frontline experiences in both the US and China are our most crucial and valuable assets for building a brighter future for both countries. In 2014, we launched the Project Pengyou Leadership Fellows Program and began mobilizing a grassroots network of campus chapters across America.
