Do you have an interest in public speaking? Public speaking is an important life skill to develop, therefore participation in the Demonstration and Health & Safety Speaking Contests  are a great opportunity for all 4-H members.

Entries for both contests are due to the Extension Office by May 24. The contests will be held on May 31 at 6 p.m. in the Extension Office.

Marion County Fair Photo Identification Badges for Members

This year the Marion County Senior Fair Board is again using photo identification badges for youth to enter the fairgrounds during the week of the fair.

Youth will need to get their pictures taken, at the Sr. Fair Board Office, during the following dates and times:

Wednesday, June 13       9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Thursday, June 14          9:00am – 8:00 pm

The Sr. Fair Board has set a fee of $10 for all photo ids NOT made by THURSDAY, June 28 at 4:00 p.m.

As you can see, there are evening and weekend times in an effort to give parents as much flexibility as possible. Youth will have their picture taken during one of these times and get their badge made. They will receive this badge when they check an exhibit in at the fair on Saturday, June 30  or Sunday, July 1  Sr. Fair Board has set a fee of $10 for all badges that need to be replaced during fair week. For questions about photo identification badges, please call the Sr. Fair Board office at 382-2558.  If you do not pick up your photo id by Sunday, July 1, you will need to pay to get onto the fairgrounds.

 

FAIR PASSES FOR PARENTS & ADVISORS

Passes will only be available for purchase and the Senior Fair Board Office NOT the Extension Office. Parents are encouraged to buy a week long fair pass at the Sr. Fair Board Office.  They are $25.00 for the week. Daily admission to the fair is $8.00.

Only advisors who have met orientation, club attendance, and administrative requirements (finger printing, application and attended policy 1.50 training) will receive their fair membership pass at a reduced price ($15.00-Advisor Pass, $25.00-Season Pass and Membership). A membership pass includes the right to vote for board members.  The ½-price advisor pass allows advisors to enter open class, but does not give you the right to vote or parking privileges.  Passes will be available at the Senior Fair Board Office after Monday, June 11 through the fair.

Older Teen Opportunities – 2018

There are many opportunities to add to your 4-H experience. Below are just a few of the ways to be more involved with the county 4-H program and be recognized for your hard work!

 

Outstanding 4-H Boy and Girl
Applicants must be 16 or older as of January 1, 2018

The Outstanding 4-H Boy and Girl Award winners will soon be selected.  In an effort to include everyone eligible complete the enclosed cover page and include it as the first page in your 4-H Member Record Book and  return it to the Marion County Extension Office no later than Friday, June 6, 4:00 p.m.  Interviews will be Tuesday, June 21, starting at 7:00 p.m. at the OSU Extension office, on a first come, first served basis. The winners receive $100 and a very unique award annually for the ”Outstanding Marion County 4-H Girl and Boy.” This award can only be won one time. Click here for the application.

 

Marion County Jr.Fair King and Queen
Applicants for King and Queen must be 16 or older as of January 1, 2018

Please complete the application and return it to the Extension office no later than Friday, June 6, 4:00 p.m. Interviews will be Tuesday, June 21, starting at 7:00 p.m., on a first come first served basis, at the Extension office. Up to five king finalists and five queen finalists will be selected at the interviews. Jr Fair exhibitors will vote on these finalists on Saturday, June 30, and Sunday, July 1 at the Junior Fair Board Office. Click here for the application.

 

Marion County Jr. Fair Prince and Princess
Applicants for Prince and Princess must be 12-15 as of January 1, 2018

Please complete the application and return it to the Extension office no later than Friday, June 6, 4:00 p.m. Interviews will be Tuesday, June 21, starting at 7:00 p.m. at the OSU Extension office and will be on a first come first served basis. Up to five princess and five prince finalists will be selected at the interviews.  Junior fair exhibitors will vote on these finalists on Saturday, June 30, and Sunday, July 1 at the Junior Fair Board Office. Click here for the application.

 

4-H Outstanding Seamstress & 4-H Outstanding Nutritionist

Eligibility: Members must have completed at least six years of their respective 4-H clothing or food projects. The judges will select the awards based on past experience, present project quality, efforts in teaching others, and knowledge of subject areas.

Outstanding Nutritionist interviews will be Monday, June 25. Outstanding Seamstress interviews will be Tuesday, June 26. A time schedule will be sent with nutrition and clothing judging information. Applications available at the Extension Office.
