Students’ Comments about Spanish Classes

 Courtney and Isaac
“Originally, I was apprehensive to take Spanish in college because it wasn’t my strongest subject in high school. I bit the bullet and decided to enroll, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. The way the course was structured was perfect because we did in-class activities every day. This allowed me to interact with my fellow classmates, and ask Professor Major questions if I didn’t understand a certain verb tense or concept we were going over. ” Courtney Young

I really liked the in-class activities because it made learning the material much more simple. The class went by fast, and I didn’t find myself looking at the clock every ten minutes like I usually do in some of my other classes. It’s not just a lecture, and that makes learning more fun because it’s interactive. I really appreciated the exam study guides because it provided a sample of what was going to be be emphasized on the test instead of having to guess.” —Isaac Altenburger

“I have learned more about myself”

“I greatly enjoyed all of my Spanish language classes at Ohio State Lima. The classes include engaging in-class activities with helpful and interactive online programs which greatly helped me in my studies. Learning a foreign language has opened my eyes not only to how people communicate, but also to the immense cultural diversity and awareness that is gained by studying a new language. I am constantly wanting to learn more and become more fluent. I love that by learning a new language, you can learn so much more than vocabulary.“ —Alex Sciranka

“Understanding a foreign language improved my understanding of the English language.”

“One of my favorite elements about the Spanish classes was the use of hands-on, active teaching methods. Our classwork consisted of discussions, games, and other activities that really allowed the students to grasp the material by practicing it together with instruction every class day, which was much more helpful than simply listening to a lecture and taking notes.”

“I have heard that knowing Spanish can help you excel in your chosen career, but I did not imagine that it could help me in getting a job in my small town. The pharmacist [who hired me] was very impressed that I acquired skills that could help me better communicate with customers.”
