Welcome to the website for the Linguistics in High School (LxHS), an initiative of the Department of Linguistics of The Ohio State University, headed by Professor Brian Joseph, with support from various students!
Through this initiative, a class on Linguistics has been offered at the Metro Early College High School in Columbus, first in Spring of 2020 and now again in the 2021-2022 school year, with a general introductory course in Autumn semester (2021) and Spring semester (2022), and a course on historical linguistics as well in Spring semester; in addition a Linguistics Club has been developed at the school as an extra-curricular offering, first in Spring 2020, then in Autumn 2020 and Spring 2021, and now again in the school year 2021-2022.
On the materials page are two write-ups that explain the history and rationale behind this initiative; more will be added to this site in the coming weeks.
As of Spring 2022, our plans are to continue the linguistics curriculum at the Metro School in the coming year, and to expand our outreach to other schools as much as is feasible. Stay tuned for new developments!
