Arguably the most important feature of a resume is formatting, so when I finish writing mine I will make sure it has a simple, readable format. Bad formatting that clutters the text and other such downfalls will make a potential employer instantly pass over the resume. One way I can ensure good formatting is by looking at example resumes.
The resume will have my contact information readily available to make sure a potential employer can contact me readily. This also shows how serious I am about wanting to speak with them. Then, I will write a profile of my skills and objectives, catered to the company I am applying for. This section is very important so I will need to be specific about my skill set and eagerness to perform well with the company.
I will list some of my work experience in retail, and in doing so list the duties and skills that might be relevant to the company I am applying for. I have read that specific phrases used here should match your cover letter, so I will tweak and edit both of them this way. Most importantly, again, it’s important to be specific.
Other skills and accomplishments will also need to be listed, especially if they would be useful for the company.
All these sections should come together in a seamless manner. As with formatting, looking at example resumes will help me write and edit mine as well as possible.
