Welcome!

Picture of Justin Habash

Thanks for visiting my page! I am the Director of Educational Innovation and Scholarship in the College of Pharmacy here at Ohio State. My role, in both my own teaching and my work in helping faculty members in the College, is to use evidence-based principles and practices from the science of learning to create the most effective, engaging learning environment possible.

Above you’ll find different pages related to various areas of my work. Prospective students can find syllabi and detailed descriptions or videos of the courses I offer as well as descriptions of my teaching philosophy and various teaching methods I use in class. My current educational research interests center around how to most efficiently build expertise and reasoning skills. Some of the specific projects I am currently pursuing or involved in include:

  1. the intersection of active learning and ethical reasoning development
  2. the use of adaptive learning technology in the development of clinical reasoning
  3. the use and development of mindfulness in health science students
  4. game-based learning

I also oversee faculty development programming in the College for both faculty and teaching assistants. offering seminars and workshops on everything from teaching methods in an active learning space to how to write good exam questions. A Faculty Development page coming soon has descriptions of some of the sessions I have offered in the past and a few that are on the horizon.

My philosophical scholarly interests lie in the history and philosophy of science and bioethics. Specifically, I am interested in the idea of scientific progress in key periods of scientific discovery, and the ethical and social policy challenges for the future presented by emerging biomedical enhancement technologies.

If you have any questions about my classes, research, or faculty development sessions, please don’t hesitate to email me at habash.5@osu.edu!
