TEDxOSU Hosts “Editfy (2 points)
Friday, Dec 2, 5:00 – 7:00 pm, 100 Campbell Hall
Edify will aim to inform the Ohio State community of the niceness of our 21st century education system. Our three speakers will bring with them years of experience working with underprivileged communities in Columbus and will attempt to highlight the educative experience that these communities face.
Their talks will highlight several creative ways that organizations have attempted to “edify” those who lack the means for a good education and some ways that education has changed and continues to transform as society advances.
Admission if FREE and open to all who wish to attend.
Racism 101: An Open Conversation with White Students (2 points)
Tuesday, December 6, 3:30-5:00 pm, 311 Denney Hall
Not a racist? Most white people do not consider themselves to be racist or to condone racism. Yet, with so many people saying or believing they are NOT racist, how can there still be racism? In this campus dialogue, we will talk about what racism is, how it is perpetuated and why so many white people do not acknowledge or see racism in America today. If you are confident that you are NOT a racist, this dialogue is for you. If you believe yourself to be against racism, but don’t know how to talk about or explain racism, this dialogue is for you. This will be facilitated by WGSS Professor and Chair Shannon Winnbst and WGSS Professor Jennifer Suchland.
