Applicants to the Health Information Management and Systems major must meet with a HIM professional of their choosing as part of the application process. Although there are many career paths for the HIM professional, this meeting is designed to help the prospective student obtain a better understanding of the traditional HIM hospital setting and to give the student a chance to meet a HIM professional. You may contact a HIM professional at a hospital near your home or you may visit the HIM department at a hospital in the Columbus area.
If you choose to visit the Medical Information Management (MIM) Department at The Ohio State University Medical Center (OSUMC) you may schedule an appointment. Historically HIMS tours have been once per month. They will only be twice a year now. Students must call the general MIM Department number at 614 293-9996 to schedule an appointment. Appointments will be made with Kristen Nelson, RHIA, Director of Education for the MIM Department. You will be given directions when you schedule your appointment. At the tour, you will receive a letter confirming that you have completed it. A copy of the letter will also be forwarded to the HIMS program.
The next two dates are Friday December 4th from 2-3 and Friday January 15th from 1-2.
