Semester in Review

My scholars seminar course helped me gain information on opportunities on and off of campus. It gave me useful information on how to succeed in my current classes and useful tips for success in my future studies. This seminar course prepared me for future endeavors in the medical field, including how to get involved in research opportunities, resume building, and applying to med school.

Artifacts

In January I spent a week in Guatemala building a school for a local village. This was my second service trip there. my job throughout the week was to cut cinder blocks that would then be put up to form the wall. To do this I used a brick saw.

This brick saw meant a lot to my trip. it gave me a purpose for being there, made me feel useful. All of the people on the trip with me had been there more times and had more experience in construction, but one of the leaders taught me how to use the saw and gave me the job for the week. It made me feel useful and important. Standing in the same spot, in the 100 degree heat, just waiting for a measurement was hard but it was worth it when i saw the finished product at the end of the week. This saw taught me new skills, gave me a new experience, and helped me grow as a person.

About Me

My name is Samuel Lee Harrison. I grew up in Orlando, Florida and moved to Bexley, Ohio about six years ago. I graduated from Bexley High School in 2015. I am now first year at The Ohio State University. I am pre-med student majoring in microbiology. I hope to get involved with research on campus and gain exposure to the medical community. My plans for the future, at this point, are spilt between either going to Veterinary school or getting involved in pediatric care. I started off as pre-vet but decided a pre-med more general track would benefit me more if my plans change.
