    Historic Costume and Textiles Collection, The Ohio State University


    Summer 1995 to Winter 1996

    • Managed two graduate students and one work study student assigned to the collection. Instructed them on cataloguing and storage procedures for new acquisitions as well as the use of artifacts for classroom purposes and numerous other
      assignments that contributed to the day-to-day operations of the collection.

    • Worked with the programming consultant from Pickering and Associates. Organized the structure of the text and imaging database, entered test data and ran
      test searches. Worked with graduate student employees to determine problems
      and to teach them how to use the database.

    • Made decisions about new acquisitions based on the needs of the collection for research, classroom and exhibition use.

    • Negotiated the purchase of five garments from the collection of the Traphagen School
      of Fashion through the New York dealer Beverly Birks. Sixty-nine garments and
      assorted hats were also donated as part of the agreement. This was a major
      donation valued over $100,000 which expanded the number and quality of the OSU’s
      collection of nineteenth century women’s apparel.

    • Assisted in the preparation for the Friend’s “Final Inspection” event, December 1995.
      Trained the docents to give tours of the new storage and conservation areas.

    • Interviewed the three candidates for the curator/director position.

    The Historic Costume and Textiles Collection, The Ohio State University


    Fall 1992 to Summer 1995, Winter 1996 to Fall 1996, Spring 1997.

    • Worked under the supervision of Charles Kleibacker, curator and designer-in- residence through Summer 1995.

    • Participated in the initial set up of a text and imaging database for the collection.

    • Developed the standards for data entry for the text and imaging database.

    • Assisted in the outfitting of new storage areas.

    • Catalogued new artifacts, managed their storage and conservation.

    • Assisted in the preparations for three major exhibitions. Responsibilities included the initial selection of garment ensembles for exhibition, preparation using restoration and conservation techniques, patternmaking and construction of underpinning garments for the mannequins, physical set up of the garments on the
      mannequins, designing headwear for the displays, and assisting in arrangement of
      scenes.
