Pre-Conference of the

American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences

90th Annual Meeting and Exposition

June 29-30, 2001

You are invited to submit a proposal for a paper or panel
presentation, poster, curriculum, or program showcase.

HEALTHY FAMILIES:

RELATIONSHIPS AND ECONOMIC ISSUES

Pre-Conference Theme: Healthy Families: Relationships and
Economic Issues
will focus on family relationships and economic issues
that contribute to healthy families. The conference will also address challenges
and coping strategies for families and professionals in the 21st century.
Finally, the conference will provide a forum to discuss the complexity
and multiplicity of the diversity of family and economic global issues
and concerns.

Call for Proposals: Individuals are encouraged to submit proposals
on a wide array of issues related to the theme including the following
topics: welfare to work issues and policies, poverty issues and policies,
factors that are contributing to family financial instability, debt and
bankruptcy issues, the Euro monetary system, family composition and its
impact on family well-being, impact of media and electronic technology
on families, blended family relationships, personal and family safety,
violence and abuse, home schooling, adolescent pregnancy and parenting,
children and well-being, security in the later years and other related
topics. The papers may be theoretical, conceptual, empirical, policy implementation,
educational programming, or demonstration or research project. Multidisciplinary
papers are welcomed.

Proposals may be for a paper or panel presentation, curriculum or program
showcase, poster, exhibit, or general speaker session.

Students are encouraged to submit proposals. Two student awards will
be given — $500 each section [FRHD & FREM] — for best pre-conference
papers
presented.

Finance—Gerontology—Demography–Political Science—Public Policy Education—Early
Childhood Education—Child Life—Human Development—Rural Sociology—Social
Work—Public Administration—Psychology–Human Nutrition—International
Studies

Proposal Guidelines: All proposals will be blind peer reviewed
by a panel of four. Proposals must be postmarked by February 1, 2001.
Applicants will be notified of acceptance by approximately April 15,
2001
. All proposals must be typed, double-spaced, font size of
12, and written in English. Accepted papers are eligible to be printed
in the peer-reviewed 2001 Biennial Journal. You may submit more than one
proposal but only one per category. All applicants should complete the
attached application form. Specific guidelines follow:

Papers: 1. Manuscript will be blind peer reviewed. Submit
four copies.

2. Include a separate title page, with the title of the paper, author’s
title, affiliation, office address, and office and home phone numbers.

3. Manuscript should be submitted on 8.5 inch x 11 inch paper, prepared
in APA style.

4. Manuscript should begin with an abstract not exceeding 75 words in
length.

5. Manuscript should be no more than 6000 words in length, including
tables, figures, and references.

6. Authors of accepted papers will be provided with detailed guidelines
outlining the style and format to be used in preparing papers for publication
in the 2001 Biennial Journal.  Authors who want their papers published
will be required to email an attached Word or Wordperfect file by May 15. 
Length and formatting must be followed for inclusion.

Panels: 1. Submit four copies of abstract, no more than
1200 words, describing the proposed panel. Panel presentation should address
the theme.

2. The program committee will make review of proposal.

3. Include a separate title page listing panel members, affiliation,
and role.

List the panel members’ names, addresses, and phone numbers in which
to send communication.

Posters: 1. Submit four copies of the abstract describing
your poster presentation. Subject matter should be appropriate and related
to the theme. Do not submit posters previously exhibited.
Poster abstracts are to be of completed research projects or scholarly
programs.

2. A separate title page, including title of poster or program, your
name, affiliation, office address and office and phone numbers should be
included. This page will be removed for the blind review.

3. The abstract describing your poster presentation is limited to one
page, single-spaced, double-spaced between paragraphs.

4. Your name must not appear on the abstract. Please do not submit the
same material as both a poster and a paper.

Authors of accepted posters who want their abstracts published will
be required to email an attached Word or Wordperfect file by May 15. 
Length and formatting must be followed for inclusion — only one page will
be published.

 

Showcase 1. Showcase items may be new curricula; state,
federal, and/or community programs or scholarly-based projects for children,
youth, and families; exhibits, and innovative projects.

2. Submit four copies of an abstract describing the item you wish to
showcase. Abstract should be one page, single spaced, double-spaced between
paragraphs. Up to 10 pages of additional information representing program
or curriculum items should be attached to the abstract.

3. Submit a title page with your name, title, affiliation, and phone
numbers of person submitting the information.

Authors of accepted showcases who want their abstracts published will
be required to email an attached Word or Wordperfect file by May 15. 
Length and formatting must be followed for inclusion — only one page will
be published.

Evaluation of Proposals: All proposals will be judged by the
following criteria: originality of idea, relationship to theme, appropriateness
of methods and techniques, clarity of abstract, linkage between research
and theory and their application to practice, and quality of writing. A
panel of FRHD and FERD colleagues will review abstracts and papers.
