G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: As part of the Morrill Scholars Program, I am surrounded by people with a passion and commitment for diversity and inclusivity. Through my interactions with this group, as well as my daily experiences at such a diverse school, I am constantly learning new things about other cultures, life experiences, and the world around me. Over the next few years, I hope to continue expanding my knowledge of and appreciation for diversity through a study abroad program, as well as the countless inclusive resources that Ohio State has to offer.

Original Inquiry: Being an English major, “traditional” laboratory research is not a pursuit of mine, however, at Ohio State there are many opportunities for Humanities students to participate in research as well. I plan to become involved in creative inquiry through the English department in the future, hopefully in medieval or classical literature.

Academic Enrichment: I am currently majoring in English and plan to double major in Linguistics or Classical Humanities. At Ohio State, I have the opportunity to take courses in these majors that challenge and enrich me, such as Honors and 4000-level courses. In these smaller classes, I am able to push myself in ways that I had been unable to at my high school and in previous experiences.

Leadership Development: Through the Morrill Scholars Program, participation on the OSU Rowing team, and involvement in the English Undergraduate Organization, I am working on developing my own style of leadership. Although I will likely never be the most outgoing person in a room, leadership comes in many different forms, and I hope to become the kind of person who leads by example, is able to ask the important questions, and is comfortable asserting myself and my opinions.

Service Engagement: In the Morrill Scholars Program, I have the opportunity to engage in service, volunteering around the city of Columbus. Over the next few years, I also plan to become more involved in the Ohio State community as well, through student organizations dedicated to service. In this way, service can bring me closer not only to the city around me but my school community.
