Volunteer Presenters

Presenters and facilitators of Financial Training workshops are area experts who volunteer their time to teach and provide information at our workshops and other training sessions. We are grateful to them for their contributions of expertise to the various training sessions offered through our office!

We also seek additional volunteers to participate in focus groups, design sessions, and material reviews. If you wish to volunteer, please complete the Volunteer Agreement.

Kristany Berger

Workshops: Earnings Operations at OSU, and Budget & Fund Transfer GL Experience

Kristany is a Resource Planning Analyst in the Office of Financial Planning and Analysis. She serves as a resource for college and regional campus fiscal officers on budget issues, administers the review of student fees and the support office budget report and request process, and serves as the office’s representative on a number of working groups. Previously at Ohio State, Kristany worked in the Business Management unit of Facilities Operations and Development and the Office of Legal Affairs. She also spent two years as a staff auditor for Deloitte & Touche in Washington, DC. Kristany received her B.S.B.A. in Accounting from the University of Richmond and her JD from The Ohio State University. Tamar Chute

Workshop: The Reconciliation Process

Tamar is the University Archivist at Ohio State. Tamar is responsible for records management, collection development, and outreach activities. She also supervises the staff, students, and volunteers and is active in national and regional archival organizations. Tamar received a BA in History from the University of Michigan in 1996 and an MLS degree from the University of Maryland in 1998. Sharon Dobner

Workshop: Purchasing Experience Sessions

Sharon is a Fiscal Officer/Procurement Specialist for the Office of Student Life Fiscal Support Services. Her primary responsibilities are buying and PCard reallocation for the Ohio Union. She began her career at the university in March of 2003 as an Office Assistant in the Office for Disability Services and was promoted to Office Manager in 2005. Sharon became a member of the Buying Team for the Office of Student Life in September 2010. Prior to beginning her career at Ohio State, she worked as an Office Manager and Assistant Producer for Colelli Productions, a film and video production company. Deborah Durant

Workshop: Liaison for The Procurement and Payment Process

Deborah is the Invoice Processing Lead in the Division of Accounts Payable, Office of the Controller. Deborah’s responsibilities include invoice processing, invoice inquiry and all inquiries regarding payment request processing. She is also the primary person to train new Accounts Payable employees in invoice processing procedures. Deborah is a liaison for departments, colleges and other units and responds to customer service calls from the university’s external vendors. Kathy Edwards

Workshop: Debits and Credits

Kathy is the Assistant Director/Business Manager of the University Press. Kathy has six years of experience as a Senior Accountant in the Office of the Controller and the Office of Financial Services. Prior to coming to Ohio State in 1990, Kathy spent two years as an accounting supervisor in the private sector and four years as an auditor in public accounting. She earned a BA in Accounting from Grove City College and an MA in Public Policy and Management here at the university. Tom Ewing

Workshop: University Expenditures Policy

Tom is Director of Financial Reporting in the Office of the Controller. Tom heads up the Division of Accounting and oversees the operation of the General Ledger; maintenance of the ChartField; generation of monthly GL reports to colleges and departments; the year-end external reporting process; the Indirect Cost operation; and the university’s tax compliance. Prior to joining the university, Tom worked for Deloitte & Touche (formerly Touche Ross & Co.) for three and a half years. Rebecca Fellure

Workshop: Purchasing Experience Sessions

Becky is an Accountant with the Business Center at the College of Social Work. She has been with CSW since 2011, and previously worked as a Delegated Buyer for the Business Operations Center with the College of Engineering. Prior to joining OSU, Becky served as a property manager for a lead real estate company in Columbus. She is knowledgeable in university procurement policy, PCard, Travel, grants budgets, purchasing and Financials system training. Rachel Ford

Workshop: Deposits GL Experience

Rachel Ford is the Manager in the Division of Student Accounting and Reconciliation, Office of the Controller. She provides support to the university with regard to the Student Information System. Rachel has been with the University since June of 2007. Prior to joining the Controller’s Office, she spent 7 years in the Office of the Treasurer, working in Bank Reconciliation and Cash Management. Before coming to the university, Rachel spent seven years with Huntington National Bank. She is a graduate of the University of Toledo. Robin Gassen

Robin is the Manager of the Business Operations Center for the College of Engineering, Office of Administration and Planning. She is, also, an Instructor for the Becker CPA Review. Prior to joining the College of Engineering, Robin worked as a Business Manager for Reading Recovery, in the College of Education and Human Ecology, as a Senior Internal Auditor in the Department of Internal Audit, and as an Accountant at the University Medical Center. Jan Giangardella

Workshops: The Procurement and Payment Process

Currently in the College of Dentistry, Office of Business and Finance, Jan is a delegated buyer attending to the procurement needs of the college.  Jan was previously the Credit Analyst for Accounts Payable in the Office of the Controller.  Also well versed in Vendor Maintenance, Jan has extensive experience in the payment and credit processes of the University. Marie Gibbons

Workshop: Stewardship of Endowment and Gift Funds

Marie is a Stewardship Manager in the Office of Donor Relations at The Ohio State University Foundation. She is the functional Lead for the Acknowledgment, Fund View and Namings modules in TAS (Blackbaud). She trains and supports users in these areas of the system. Marie is responsible for training Foundation staff on writing gift agreements and endowment descriptions, reporting best practices, and other donor relations related material. Previously, she was the Senior Leadership Writer; drafting correspondence for the President of the University and the Senior Vice President of the Foundation. JT Houssami

Workshop: Stewardship of Endowment and Gift Funds

JT is the Associate Director of Financial Stewardship in the Office of Donor Relations at The Ohio State University Foundation. He is responsible for maintaining data integrity in The Advancement System’s (TAS) Fund View module, and creating financial reports for donors and university departments. JT also assists colleges and departments by helping with internal fund audits, increasing transparency and accountability to donors. Prior to joining the university, JT worked in retail banking as a branch manager for several years. He has a BS in business administration from the Fisher College of Business. Rob Hupp

Workshop: Using General Ledger Reports

Rob is a Financial Systems and Business Analyst in the Division of Accounting, Office of the Controller. Rob is a primary contact for all General Ledger and chartfield related questions and issues. Gary Leimbach

Workshop: Stewardship of Endowment and Gift Funds

Gary is Treasury Accounting Manager. He manages the Endowment and Treasury Accounting areas of the Controller’s Office. Endowment Accounting administers the fund accounting and financial reporting functions for the University Endowment. The area oversees the 4,700+ individual endowment funds, releasing annual distribution to each account at the beginning of the fiscal year and as new gifts are received. Endowment Accounting accounts and reconciles the investment transactions performed by the investment managers for the $3.15 billion Long-Term Investment Pool. This department also oversees the Endowment portion of the Controller’s Office website. Treasury Accounting performs the accounting functions for the $3.13 billion University Operating and Agency funds. Kelley Maynard

Workshop: The Procurement and Payment Process

Kelley is the Manager of the Business Services Center for the College of Arts and Sciences. Kelley manages the procurement, fiscal and human resources activities of the departments and centers within the College of Arts and Sciences, serves as general authority to approve BSC business transactions and administrative policies and procedures, maintains compliance with university internal controls and ensues alignment with Arts and Sciences strategic goals. She serves as an expert resource and advises department HR and fiscal administrators on university and college policies and procedures. She provides procurement, fiscal and HR support and guidance to all units in the college. Kelley graduated from Ohio State with a degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology and has been employed with the university since 1987. Theresa Mooney

Workshop: The Procurement and Payment Process

Theresa is a Program Coordinator for the School of Earth Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences (ASC) where she provides procurement, fiscal and HR support. She is also the asset manager and grant coordinator for her department. Prior to joining ASC, Theresa was a program coordinator for the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences in the School of Environmental and Natural Resources. She served as the administrative manager and research coordinator for the Carbon Management and Sequestration Center. Daniel W. Noonan

Workshop: The Reconciliation Process

Daniel, an assistant professor, is the Electronic Records/Digital Resources Archivist at Ohio State. Reporting to the University Archivist, in collaboration with the Office of the CIO, he assists in the design, evaluation, and implementation of electronic recordkeeping systems of the university in order to produce trustworthy records; provides counsel to academic and administrative offices in electronic records management and preservation best practices; and advocates for necessary resources and develops strategies for long-term preservation and access to electronic records of enduring value. Daniel chairs the University Library’s Web Governance Committee and is a member of the Digital Reformatting Work Group. His external commitments include representing OSU on the Ohio Electronic Records Committee, where he is the Past Chair. Further, Daniel is active in national and regional archival and records management organizations. Daniel received a BS in Construction Administration from the University of Wisconsin in 1985 and an MLS degree from Rutgers University in 2001. Doris Orsborn

Doris is the Business Operations Manager in the College of Optometry. Prior to returning to the College of Optometry as their Business Operations Manager, she was a fiscal officer in the College of Education and Human Ecology and previously worked for the Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Laboratory as their HR, Fiscal and Travel Coordinator. Doris began her career in 2007 as an accountant in the College of Optometry where she managed the accounting function of the Optometry Clinics. Doris earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with a specialization in Accounting and Business Economics from OSU in 2008. Nicole Pannell

Nicole is the Training and Development Coordinator for the Office of the University Bursar and has been with the university since 2007. Nicole focuses on training for Student Financials and Departmental Transfers for Accounts Receivable. She has an Associate’s degree in Human Resources from Columbus State and a Bachelor’s degree in Corporate Training and Development. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Organizational Management. Marie Peterson

Marie is the Manager of the Travel, PCard and Expediting Programs. She is responsible for developing and driving business processes and systems improvements to achieve optimal efficiency and effectiveness of all program functions. Marie has worked for the university since 1998, and has experience working as a Buyer, a Contract Administrator and as a Minority Business Reporting Coordinator in the Purchasing Department. Tricia Privette

Tricia is a Financial Reporting Analyst in the Division of Accounting, Office of the Controller. Prior to joining the university, Tricia was employed in tax-related positions in both private industry and state government. She has a MBA and a MS in Consumer Sciences from Ohio State and has been a Certified Public Accountant since 1991. Tricia began working for the university as a Senior Accountant in 1997. She is also serving as a lecturer autumn semester 2013 by instructing a Fashion and Retail Studies undergraduate class in Consumer Sciences. Aaron Purnell

Aaron is the Assistant Director of Development Records in The Ohio State University Foundation. His area is responsible for maintaining the gift and biographical records necessary for fundraising and receipting donations. Previously, Aaron worked as an Information Associate in the Gift Processing Office. Aaron received an AA from Columbus State Community College in 2003. He is a veteran of the United States Air Force and grew up in Clintonville, where his Mom, an OSU retiree, and Dad still live. Rick Shaffer

Rick is the Business Manager for the Infectious Diseases Institute, a unit within the Office of Research. Rick has been with Ohio State for 26 years and has held various business, fiscal, and HR positions in several units including the Marching and Athletic Bands; the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences; Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Lab; the College of Optometry; and the College of Nursing. He earned his master’s degree in Public Policy and Management from the John Glenn College of Public Affairs and has been a presenter with Financial Training since 2001. Kristi Todd

Kristi is the Manager of Payroll Processing at Ohio State. Kristi is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of the biweekly and monthly payrolls. She serves as a payroll subject matter expert on University projects such as the Semester conversion, eTime and eLeave initiative and HR system upgrades. Marquitta Tyler

Marquitta is a Fiscal Officer/Procurement Specialist for the Student Life Fiscal Support Service Procurement Team. Marquitta began her career at OSU in 2008 in the Benefits Department for the Office of Human Resources as an Office Associate. She has a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from Ohio Dominican College (now Ohio Dominican University) and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Ed Ward

Workshop: Using General Ledger Reports

Ed is a Fiscal Officer in the Fisher College of Business shared services center. He is responsible for cash handling, billing & accounts receivable, reconciliations as well as purchasing, travel, accounting and financial reporting for several departments within the college. Ed began his OSU career in 2004 working in Student Life’s business office and then moved to Recreational Sports as their senior accountant. Previous to joining the university, he was a personal banker with a major bank here in Columbus, served as the controller of a plastic injection molding company, and worked as the general manager of a small tooling company. DeeAnn is Manager of Asset Management, Office of the Controller. DeeAnn’s responsibilities include writing policies and procedures, supporting the Asset Management help desk, and volunteering as a PeopleSoft trainer.
