Fairfield County Public Speaking Contests

Our Annual Health and Safety Speaking event is scheduled for June 19th, at 1 pm.   We ask that you call the office by June 1st to register for the following events:

For those members just starting their public speaking journey, we have two classes at the county level:

  • Cloverbuds can say the 4-H pledge.
  • Traditional Members can recite the 4-H Creed.

For those with more experience, we have classes for both individuals and teams.

  • Junior and Senior Individual 4-H members can participate in the Health and Safety Speaking Event. Health and Safety Speeches are eligible for competition at the next level, which would be regionals in July and then possibly to the state fair after that.  We follow the Ohio State Junior Fair Rules found here.
  • Team Health and Safety Talks/Skits for two to five current members of all ages.  The rules for the team talks/skits can be found here.

Updated Camp Information

Camp registrations started on May 1st, and with Camp Roundup last night, we wanted to let you know of some updated camp numbers.

As of last night, we have lots of room for our Cloverbud campers on June 9th.  The $10.00 registration fee and form is due by June 1st.  After June 1st, the fee goes to $50.00

Intermediate Camp (Ages 11-13) June 26-29th – SOLD OUT!  Both Boys and Girls are on a wait list.  The fee for Intermediate and Junior Camp is $57.50 until June 1st, then goes to $150.00.

Junior Camp (Ages 8-10) July 7-10th -We have 16 boy spots and 44 girl spots remaining.

Fairfield County’s 4-H Meat Judging Team – 2nd Place at State Contest!

Five Fairfield County 4-H youth participated in the State 4-H Meat Judging Contest on April 28th. Our Senior Team placed 2nd out of 5 teams. Senior Team members included Derek Burns (2nd place individual), Sarah Doner (4th place individual), Paige Hinton (11th place individual), and Allie Poston (15th place individual). Additionally, Lily Dennis competed in the Junior Division and placed 5th individually in the Junior Division.

Members were coached by 4-H volunteers, James Maynard and Caitlyn Black alongside Bloom Carroll FFA members. For more information in joining the Fairfield County 4-H Meat Judging Team in 2019, contact James or Caitlyn.

Paid Positions available for the 2018 Ohio State Fair!

The State 4-H Office is currently accepting applications for Educational Assistants for the 2018 Ohio State Fair. These are paid positions. The first day of work would be July 21st, 2018 and ending on August 5, 2018. Housing is available in the Rhodes Center Dormitory. 4-H Antique, Craft, and Vendor Show: VENDORS WANTED!

The Fairfield County 4-H Advisory Committee is planning an Antique, Craft, and Vendor Show for Saturday, July 28th, 2018 at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds. The event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The 4-H Advisory Committee is currently looking for vendors who can purchase a 10′ x 10′ space (includes 1 table and 2 chairs) for $25. 4-H Camp Registrations: CLOSE June 1st (to avoid late fee, get scholarship, request buddy)!

Fairfield County 4-H Camps are open to current Fairfield County 4-H members and those completing a School Enrichment program in Fairfield County.  

Fairfield County youth attend Junior and Intermediate Camps at Tar Hollow State Park, located in Laurelville, Ohio. Youth sleep in a cabin with at least one youth counselor and up to 6 other youth. Activities at camp include campfire, swimming, canoeing, hiking, fishing, line dancing, crafts, team building activities, water carnivals, games, and lots of fun!  We hold our Junior and Intermediate camps here.  Our Cloverbud Day camp is held at Alley Park near Lancaster.

Continuing from 2017, the Junior and Intermedicate camp fee includes meals, cabin lodging, camp programming fees, health insurance, the camp t-shirt and picture.

Cloverbud Day camp fee includes snacks, lunch, camp programming fees and health insurance.

CAMP DATES FOR 2018!!  (age as of January 1st)

  • Cloverbud (5-8 and Cloverbud members): June 9. Cloverbud Day Camp will be first this year! 
  • Intermediate (11-14 year olds): June 26-29 (staff arrive June 25). 
  • Junior (8-10 year olds): July 7-10 (staff arrive July 6).

Do you want more information about the activities that will happen at camp? Want to request being in the same cabin as a friend? Visit the Camp Round Up Thursday May 24th, 2018 at the Ag Center from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. You can also register for camp at this time in addition to meeting counselors that will be camping with you!

Camp Registration and Cabin Friend Request Form  Completed form and payment of $57.50 due by June 1st for Junior and Intermediate Camp. After June 1st deadline, there will be a late fee in addition to the full camp fee (no scholarships).

Health & Safety and Pledge/Creed Speaking Contest Event – Sign up now!

Speak out and get involved! Improve your public speaking skills and raise awareness of health and safety topics. The Fairfield County Health & Safety Speaking Event will be Tuesday, June 19th, 2018 starting at 1:00 p.m. at the Ag Center. Any 4-H or Cloverbud member can participate. The following events will take place:

  • Junior and Senior Individual Health & Safety Speaking Events
  • Health & Safety Speaking Team Event
  • 4-H Creed Speaking Event
  • 4-H Pledge Speaking Event (Cloverbuds Only)

Earn a chance to also participate in the Ohio State Fair with the Health & Safety events!
