Non-livestock Virtual Judging

Kuddos to Greene County 4-H youth!

I turned on my computer this morning to find over 100 (108 to be exact if I counted correctly) entries for non-livestock virtual judging from over 75 youth!

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we are all navigating new approaches and trying new things.  We all learned from this process of collecting entries.  Thank you for not giving up!

We are thinking of the best possible way to display this during our fair.  It won’t be how we have done it in the past, but you all deserve an awesome display, nonetheless.  I can’t wait for you all to see the hard work they have done!

These videos, pictures, displays, and kids have made today a great day.

Non-livestock Virtual Completion Process

You probably saw in our June newsletter an update to pre-fair judging for 2020.

Non-livestock Virtual Completion Process

With safety of youth, volunteers, judges, parents, and staff, we can not hold in person prefair judging as we have done in the past.

We have a website with the process to submit a video and a picture.  This is due by 11:59 p.m. July 6.

Please review our link on our website for all details.  As always, let us know if you have any questions.

Due to COVID-19 and in alignment with the cancellation of the Ohio State Fair, there will be no 4-H state fair project judging this year. However, we know how important it is to recognize 4-H members for the time and effort in completing their projects. While we are still working on the details, we are excited to announce there will be an Ohio 4-H Project Showcase. All members will be invited to submit a photo of themselves with their 4-H project. These photos will be added to a gallery page on the state 4-H website and we’re working on plans to highlight members in additional ways. We’ll share the information about posting photos by June 15.

Project Judging Update

Please know that due to this information, final details and information about how Greene County will be handling judging and skillathons at the county level will be coming out any day.  Thank you all for your continued patience!

This just in from the Assistant Director, Kirk Bloir:

4-H Food and Nutrition Portfolios

Are you taking a food and nutrition project in 4-H this year?  Please read the specifics of your nutrition portfolio.

The Portfolio is project specific and is used to enhance a conversation between the member and a judge about activities the member completed within the project. The participant will be responsible for bringing a 3 pronged folder or binder that includes 8 ½” x 11” pages. Participants will create a maximum of one page (one-sided only) per “activity area” or “interest area” as designated in the front of their project books. Ideas for these pages include journaling, a timeline, and photos taken during their project, or any other format that would illustrate the work and knowledge of the participant. Each page could be different or can be a combination of styles allowing the 4-H’er to reflect on their learning experience. There will be no points for scrapbooking style. The portfolio is to be completed prior to
arriving at judging.
