My Ed Tech Philosophy

DWolfe PicEducational technology means different things to different people. For me, educational technology means adapting and evolving the way in which we create and communicate information to meet the changing needs of our clients.

I have a two-tier approach to the Educational Technology Specialist position. The first tier is using new and innovative technology to teach content. Examples include creating fact sheet info graphics; using live streaming apps like Periscope and MeerKat to broadcast programs and field-based activities; creating viral content; and developing video fact sheets.

The second tier is higher-level marketing and education using technology. Examples include improving search engine optimization (SEO) for fact sheets and other web-based Extension resources; developing effective social media marketing campaigns; and telling the story of Extension so that our communities understand and value our impact.

With boundless possibilities, I’m excited to be at the forefront of exploring the many ways Extension can use technology to advance our work. I will serve as the primary Ed Tech contact for 4-H and Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension professionals, though I’m happy to help others with ed tech questions and applications.

My Background

From Park Ranger to Extension Educator (ANR) to Ed Tech Specialist, my career path seems winding, but I like to think I’ve been on a direct path to finding ways in which educators can improve teaching methods. Having served as a front line educator in several different capacities, I know the types of technologies educators use and where we have room for improvement. I’m always looking for ways we can be more effective and efficient in the work we do.

As a nature lover and macro insect photographer, I’m always looking for an excuse to go exploring with my camera. I love teaching photography workshops and I’ve taken up an intense interest in graphic design over the last few years.
