Join Us for Events Throughout Fair Week!

There’s a lot to see and do during fair week.  We have created a list of some of the things you won’t want to miss!

Things to do during fair week:

  • Have your club participate in the Fireman’s Parade
  • Work a shift in the 4-H Outpost to support Clermont County 4-H
  • Purchase a souvenir 4-H tumbler from the 4-H Outpost ($8 for the tumbler and .50 cent tea/lemonade refills all week!)
  • Vote for your favorite Club Flower Display on the OSU Extension Facebook Page
  • Check out the general project displays in the 4-H Hall
  • Come watch and support our “Day In the Ring” event on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. (a livestock show held for individuals with special needs)
  • Visit the barns and show arenas to see livestock projects
  • Support the Junior Fair Livestock Sale on Friday and/or Saturday
  • Visit the Extension display in the 4-H Hall to learn more about OSU Extension-Clermont County
  • Check out in the Ag in the Community interactive display around the fairgrounds
  • Register to participate in the events below!

STEM CHALLENGE

  5. Develop problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills.

Tuesday, July 23

CLOVERBUD SHOW & TELL AND RECOGNITION CEREMONY
Event Date: Tuesday, July 23
Time: 10:00 a.m.
Location: 4-H Hall

General Rules:

  1. Clermont County 4-H Cloverbuds are encouraged to bring an item to show and tell their project to an adult.
  2. The item should be something that the Cloverbud made or learned about at a club meeting or as part of their participation in the Cloverbud program.
  3. No animals may be brought to Cloverbud Show and Tell, regardless of size.
  4. Cloverbuds who present at Show and Tell will be recognized during the recognition ceremony.

CLOVERBUD ACTIVITIES
Event Date: Tuesday, July 23

General Rules:

  1. All Clermont County Cloverbud aged youth (ages 5-8) may participate.
  2. Cloverbuds will visit stations to participate in a variety of activities.
  3. Each member will be recognied for their participation in the program.

Wednesday, July 24

SCAVENGER HUNT
Event Date: Wednesday, July 24
Event Time: 3:00 p.m.
Event Location: 4-H Hall

General Rules:

  1. Youth ages 8-18 are invited to participate.
  2. Register as a team of 4-6 or join a team the day of the event.
  3. Teams under 14 must have an adult chaperone.
  4. Teams will answer clues to determine the location of events.
  5. Teams will participate in an activity or complete a challenge at each location.
  6. Each team must have a cell phone to complete some of the challenges.
  7. The hunt must be complete on foot; no motorized transportation is allowed.
  8. The first team to accurately complete all challenges will win a prize.

BAKE-IT CONTEST
Judging Date: Thursday
Judging Check-In Time: 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Division 1 – youth ages 5-8 (as of January 1 of the current year)
Class 1 – Cupcake Decorating (six cupcakes; judged on appearance only)
Class 2 – No Bake Cookies
Class 3 – Sweet or Savory Trail Mix (with or without heat source in preparation)

Division 2 – youth ages 9-13 (as of January 1 of the current year)
Class 4 – Cookies (six cookies)
Class 5 – Fudge (six pieces of fudge)
Class 6 – Brownies (six brownies)
Class 7 – Quick Bread (six brownies)
Class 8 – Make it with Fresh Herbs (fresh herbs must be an ingredient)
Class 9 – Cake (must be at least two layers with frosting; made from scratch)
Class 10 – Cupcake Decorating (six decorated cupcakes; judged on appearance
only)
Class 11 – Cake Decorating (any size or shape cake; judged on appearance only)

Division 3 – youth ages 14-18 (as of January 1 of the current year)
Class 12 – Cookies (six cookies)

Friday, July 26

FRUIT & VEGGIE CAR DERBY
Event Dates: Friday
Event Time: 3:00 p.m.

General Rules:

  1. Participants must be 8 years old and in the third-grade to 18 years of age as of
    January 1 of the current year and a member of a Clermont County 4-H, Boy
    Scout, Girl Scout, American Heritage Girls Program to be eligible.
  2.  Pre-registration must be submitted to the Ohio State University Extension Office
    by 4:00 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2019.
  3. Entries will be judged in four divisions:
    • Cloverbud – age 5 and in kindergarten to 8 and in the second grade
    • Junior – age 8 and in the third grade to 11 as of January 1 of the current year
    • Intermediate/Senior – ages 12-18 as of January 1 of the current year
    • Adult – 19 and older as of January 1 of the current year
  4. Entries will be judged in three categories: Fastest car in each class, Most Creative design in each class and the car that goes the furthest distance in each class.
  5. The fastest category will be judged by the car that makes if from the top to the bottom of the incline in the fastest amount of time.
  6. The most creative category will be chosen at the judges’ discretion.
  7. The furthest distance category will be judged simultaneously with the fastest category.
  8. Each participant may enter one car. These entries should be brought to the fair already assembled.
  9. Entry criteria: Each participant must make a car that is able to roll down an incline.
  10. Cars must be made out of at least five different fresh fruits or vegetables and must have at least three wheels. To assemble the car, you may use up to 2 bamboo skewers, 6 wooden toothpicks and one rubber band. These cars must be made out of 100-percent fresh fruit or vegetables except for the items listed above to hold the car together (bamboo skewers, toothpicks and rubber band).
