Due to the increasing number of diverse background students in U.S. schools, it is vitally important to recognize how race, cultural differences, language barriers and psychological needs influence immigrant/refugee students academically and psychologically, and how these challenges impact their interactions with their school counselors.

USING COMPETENCY BASED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TO INCREASE ENGAGEMENT IN MASSIVE OPEN ONLINE COURSES

In this study, I use a randomized study design to examine the extent to which a competency based approach to professional learning can affect engagement in and changes in practice resulting from online PD. Early results suggest that educators in the treatment group were more engaged and more effectively integrated course ideas into their practice.

INTERCULTURAL COMPETENCE AND COLLEGE READINESS: A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS AT A COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND A FOUR-YEAR UNIVERSITY

Though colleges and the workforce increasingly demand culturally competent skills, these skills are absent from the factors for college readiness. This research shows where first year college students rank on average, at Polarization which reflects an “us and them” judgmental view on cultural differences.

THE PURPOSES OF HIGHER EDUCATION ON AUTONOMOUS UNIVERSITY WEBSITES: A CASE OF INDONESIA

The study analyzes both textual and visual elements to examine what websites of Indonesian autonomous universities reveal about purposes of higher education. The findings suggest that the websites communicate a message with more emphasis on professional development and knowledge generation rather than on character building and community services.
