Year in Review

I plan to increase my sense of global awareness and cultivate my appreciation for diversity through coursework and by studying abroad.  Because I am majoring in political science, I am required to take at least one class in comparative politics, allowing me to develop a deeper understanding of the politics in another country.  Furthermore, I plan to take spanish. Growing up in New Mexico, I was surrounded by many native spanish speakers and understand the importance of being able to communicate with people from different backgrounds.  Finally, I would like to study abroad during at least one summer. Studying abroad would give me the opportunity to be fully immersed in a different culture while furthering my education.

I hope to engage in original research at Ohio State by completing an undergraduate thesis and graduating with honors research distinction.  I also plan on participating in STEP my second year in order to receive up to $2000 for a signature project.

After my time at Ohio State, I hope to attend law school and eventually pursue a career as either a prosecutor or litigator.  I am majoring in political science not only to facilitate my interest in civil rights and government, but also to prepare me with the foundations necessary to succeed in law school.  Also because of my interest in law, I intend to pursue a minor in legal foundations of society. I also plan to tailor my general education requirements to fit my interest in politics by taking classes such as sociology 23607.01H: The Political Elite and Interest Groups.  Finally, because I’m in the honors program, I plan to take many honors courses and upper division courses in order to challenge myself academically.

L

I intend to develop my leadership skills by participating in clubs/organizations and pursuing internship opportunities.  Already, I have joined the First Year Leadership Initiative (FYLI) in order to figure out how to get involved both on and off-campus and to enhance my leadership skills.  I also hope to join other professional organizations such as the student council on world affairs or mock trial. Outside of the classroom, I am very interested in applying for a summer internship in Washington D.C. which will allow me to improve my leadership and career skills.

S

I plan to serve my community by joining clubs that get me involved at Ohio State and in the greater Columbus community.  I want to join Buckeyethon in order to give back to the community and raise funds for child cancer. I also am interested in volunteering for the Legal Aid Society later in my college career.
