More than 900 Ohio 4-H and FFA members exhibited nearly 3,280 individual entries during the inaugural Ohio Youth Livestock Expo.

A group of nearly 50 volunteers coordinated the effort, including raising tens of thousands of dollars, working with local health officials, implementing safety protocols, and providing an opportunity for kids to complete youth livestock projects that started, in some cases, almost a year ago.

More information about the Expo, including a full schedule of events, along with additional results are available at https://www.TheOYLE.com.

About the Ohio Youth Livestock Expo

The Ohio Youth Livestock Expo is 2020’s premier, statewide livestock show for Ohio’s junior livestock exhibitors who are seeking a competitive arena to finish their beef, sheep, swine, and boer goat projects. OYLE respects the administration’s decision regarding the cancellation of the Ohio State Fair and looks forward to the 2021 Ohio State Fair. Led by a group of industry volunteers, the OYLE committee is excited to host a show for junior exhibitors. For the safety of all exhibitors, the show will follow local and state guidelines, along with guidance from county health departments.

***Important Information for Livestock Sale Participants***

***Important Information for Livestock Sale Participants***

If a Junior Fair market livestock exhibitor in your family plans to participate in the 2020 livestock sale, they will need to submit a completed IRS W-9 form. W-9’s have to be collected by the Shelby County Agricultural Society to comply with the IRS’s federal tax laws for reporting self-employment income. More information pertinent to this topic can be found at the following links or by visiting go.osu.edu/shelbysale.

– Farmer’s Tax Guide for 2019 Returns (pages 17 and 74)

– National 4-H Livestock Sales and Prize Winnings Fact Sheet

– MSU Extension Web Page on 4-H Livestock Sales and the IRS

Individual information on the W-9 should match that of the youth whose name the sale check will be made out to, NOT the parent. In most cases, exhibitors will mark “Individual/Sole Proprietor” UNLESS their family owns a farm with an LLC/tax ID. In those cases, exhibitors can claim the income under that entity’s tax umbrella.

Because OSU Extension is a partner of the Shelby County Agricultural Society and has secure institutional data policies and servers, they will be collecting completed W-9 forms.

Completed forms can be:

  • Mailed or dropped off to the OSU Extension office BEFORE fair week events start (Sunday, July 26). Mailing and physical address for the Extension Office: Shelby County Extension, c/o Cassie Dietrich, 810 Fair Rd., Sidney, OH 45365. We do have a locked dropbox which these forms can be placed in after hours.
  • Handed directly to Cassie Dietrich the day of the check-in/show. We will have blank copies available each day.
    .
  • Dropped off at the Senior Fair Board/Secretary’s office during fair week events (Sunday, July 26 – Thursday, July 30). Look for the blue paper tote near Michelle’s desk.

DO NOT TAKE FORMS TO JUNIOR FAIR HEADQUARTERS OR THE SALE COMMITTEE BARN!!!!

If completed forms are not turned in, exhibitors will not be able to pick up their sale check on Consignor’s Night. At the end of the tax year, 1099 forms will be issued to qualifying exhibitors by mail. If you have questions about how to handle a 1099 for tax return purposes, please talk to a qualified tax advisor.

We understand this is ANOTHER change for this year; however, it is the Shelby County Agricultural Society’s legal responsibility to abide by the federal tax laws.

Thank you for your understanding.

Cassie
