Hello. This year the Shelby Co. Farm Bureau will be giving out free shirts to Jr. Fair participants! Shirts are available on a first come basis from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Sunday, July 21 at the Community Foundation Round Building, to Jr. Fair participants only and they must have their fair passes to receive a shirt.

Shelby County 4-H Foundation Scholarship Program

(Formally 4-H Performance Standards of Excellence)

Description  

The Shelby County 4-H Foundation will award up to four $500 College scholarships to current members of Shelby County 4-H pursuing a college degree. Each applicant will be asked to meet a set of minimum standards, verified by his/her local 4-H Advisor, school official, and parent. The deadline for submitting the “Shelby County 4-H Foundation Scholarship Program” application and supporting documentation is July 20. All applicants who meet the minimum standards will be placed in a lottery, with a random drawing selecting the college scholarship winner(s).

This scholarship program is available ONLY to 2018-2019 (school year) high school seniors and college freshmen.

***Seeking Teens for Junior Fair Board!!***

All youth entering the 9th grade this fall are eligible to run for Junior Fair Board. There are two routes for joining Junior Fair Board:

  1. Candidate for Election Route: This is ONLY for townships with an impending opening. Township openings are listed below. Candidate for Election forms (attached) require EITHER club advisors and officers signatures OR a nominating petition signed by at least 15 eligible people from the township in which the candidate is running for. Candidate for Election forms are DUE WEDNESDAY, JULY 17, 2019 by 4:30 p.m. at the Extension Office. **Please note this deadline is earlier than past years. Voting will take place during the fair at times TBA.
  2. Application for Appointment: This is for youth who do not live in a township with an opening or youth who run in the election but do not get elected. Applications for Appointment forms (attached) are due Friday, August 2 by 4:30 p.m. at the Extension Office.

The Shelby County Junior Fair Board is a premier organization that is well-respected across the state. They are known for going above and beyond in helping plan, coordinate and execute the Junior Fair and other 4-H and FFA events throughout the year. It is a fantastic, unmatched learning experience that teaches teens about professionalism, communication, event planning, conflict management, decision-making and more. The Junior Fair Board meets on the third Sunday of the month year around from 6-8 p.m. While being part of the Junior Fair Board is a time commitment, all the teens on the board say their time spent has been more than worth it!
