Job Opportunity – General Lab Analyst

The Ohio Water Microbiology Laboratory at The Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Water Science Center of the U.S. Geological Survey in Columbus, Ohio is in need of a student contractor to assist with general laboratory duties and environmental sample analyses. This position will start in May/June 2019 and will be up to full-time during the summer with a potential to continue as part-time into the fall and winter. Main duties include processing environmental samples for indicator bacteria and viruses using basic filtering and plating techniques, preparing media and reagents, and general upkeep and maintenance of lab and equipment.

Students who wish to apply should have a general background knowledge in biology, environmental science, and/or microbiology. Essential skills include ability to keep accurate records, follow established protocol, and the use of common computer software. Compensation is $13.70 per hour if above criteria are met.

Gotion-Ohio Research and Development Summer Intern

Gotion-Ohio is a research and development center for Guoxan’s global research and development network.  Gotion-Ohio’s goal is to innovate in electric vehicle technology by accelerating electrified transportation and achieving sustainable development. Gotion-Ohio is currently seeking applicants for a paid internship program for summer 2019.  This internship position will be from May-August 2019.

Requirements:

  • at least 2 years of progress working towards a Chemistry or Chemical Engineering bachelor’s degree
  • at least Sophomore standing
  • be eligible to work in the United States without current or future visa support

  • track and maintain inventories and request replacements
  • keep laboratory and storeroom clean
  • dispose of waste and obsolete material according to rules and regulations
  • attend required training sessions
  • follow all safety procedures

The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY) is seeking instructors and teaching assistants for their summer programs. Internships at the Smithsonian

Internship Positions

Smithsonian Sleepovers 
Assist in coordinating all aspects of the Smithsonian Sleepover program such as set-up, supervising craft activities, customer service, and maintaining supplies. Sleeping over in the museum is a requirement. View position details.

Support staff in the Development Office through creating marketing materials, drafting grants and sponsor proposals, maintaining website text, and conducting research on funding sources for Development activities. View position details.

Summer Research at MIT

The MIT Materials Research Laboratory and the Materials Research Science & Engineering Center sponsor a summer research internship program for rising junior and senior undergraduates in the science and engineering fields.

This challenging program brings promising students to MIT to learn and perform research in laboratories in a broad selection of materials science subfields. In addition to providing a stipend and round-trip travel expenses, we host presentations and group discussions on topics relevant to materials scientists, such as graduate school, careers in materials science, creating effective poster presentations, and management of intellectual property. At the conclusion of the program, the students present their individual research results at a poster session. The summer research internship, offered each year since 1983, affords students an invaluable experience in top-notch cutting edge research.

Nuclear Forensics Undergraduate Summer School Program Application Deadline Approaching

Nuclear Forensics Undergraduate Summer School (NFUSS) is a six-week course, sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), designed to provide undergraduate students with comprehensive, experimental, hands-on training in topics essential to nuclear forensics. This program will be held June 11 to July 20, 2018, at the University of Utah campus in Salt Lake City. Through laboratory experiments and complementary lectures, students are introduced to the practice and technical aspects of nuclear forensic science. The program will also include a field trip to Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Nuclear forensics involves examining materials recovered from radiological and nuclear events of an illicit or hostile nature in order to determine their character and origin. Nuclear forensics conclusions, combined with information from law enforcement investigation and intelligence, help identify those responsible for planned and actual attacks.

Nuclear forensics supports the U.S. Government’s commitment to identify and hold fully accountable any state or non-state actor that willfully supports, enables, or engages in hostile weapons of mass destruction, and activities that threaten the United States or our allies and partners.

2018 Summer Internship & Opportunity Fair

The 2018 Summer Internship & Opportunity Fair is scheduled for Tuesday, January 23, 2018 from 1-5pm in the Archie Griffin Grand Ballroom of the Ohio Union. This fair is open to all Ohio State students and is designed to connect students with organizations recruiting for summer internships, summer volunteer opportunities, and part-time or full-time summer employment.
