Vanderbilt Chemical Biology REU

The Department of Chemistry at Vanderbilt University welcomes applications from undergraduates to participate in their REU in Chemical Biology, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF REU).

The application deadline is February 15, 2023.

This REU is a ten week hands-on course designed to introduce chemistry, biochemistry and biology students to the research processes and the interdisciplinary nature of contemporary research. Students participate in a mini-symposium on drug discovery, attend seminars given by VICB faculty working across disciplinary lines, and participate in weekly discussions on topics such as ethics.

The 2023 will run from May 30th to August 4th in Nashville, TN. Students receive a stipend of $6000 for the 10-week program, and the program will assist with housing arrangements.

Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors are encouraged to apply.

University of Pittsburgh SURF 2023

The University of Pittsburgh Chemistry Department is accepting applications to their 2023 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship program.

Research opportunities are available for 4-6 undergraduate students from underrepresented groups and/or female students who are expected to graduate in 2024. Students will receive a stipend of $4300 for 10 weeks of summer research as well as free housing on the University of Pittsburgh’s campus. The program will run from May 30 to August 4, 2023.

Chemistry majors are preferred. For available research areas and groups, please visit here.

Apply by February 15.

REU: Nanoscale Assembly of Molecules and Materials

The colors of butterfly wings, the strength of an abalone shell, and the adhesive properties of gecko feet arise from the arrangement of smaller building blocks which comprise these structures. REU students at Indiana University Bloomington will engage in in-depth study of materials chemistry and, in particular, how materials assemble from smaller entities (atoms and molecules) into larger structures and the function of assembled forms. The projects for REU students include both synthesis and characterization of materials and their building blocks, with opportunities for students with interests in all areas of chemistry.

Students in the program will engage in a 10-week summer research experience beginning in May 2020. They will participate in weekly career development discussions and visit local companies such as Eli Lilly and CRANE Naval Surface Warfare Center.

Participants will receive a $500 per week stipend, a travel allowance up to $500, on-campus housing, and a meal allowance.

More information is available on their website and flyer.

Applications will open in November and are due January 31, 2020.
