Discovery Prep: Post-Baccalaureate Research Education Program

Looking for some extra resume padding or laboratory experience before diving into a competitive graduate program? The Ohio State Crystal Lab photos 008.jpgUniversity offers a Post-baccalaureate Research Program called Discovery Prep, perfect for students looking to earn a PhD in biomedical science but need an extra step before applying to graduate programs. Accepted applicants are provided with one year of paid research experience in a laboratory with a nationally recognized research mentor in a biomedical science discipline; Graduate Record Exam (GRE) preparation assistance; individual mentoring; assistance with application preparation for PhD graduate programs; career development workshops; and opportunities to travel and network with other scientists throughout the nation.

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry hires over 50 outstanding undergraduates per semester to teach our General Chemistry courses. If you’d like to improve your content knowledge at your job, help students through problems, and get teaching experience, TAing could be for you!

Qualifications:

  • Completed General Chemistry Sequence (1210/1220; 1610/1620; or 1910H/1920H) with an A or A- (preferred)
  • Accumulative GPA > 3.6
  • Taking classes during Spring 2019
  • No other paid student appointment during Spring 2019 [this includes paid research]

Appointment Details:

  • Salary: $12-13/hour
  • Hours: 10-12 per week
  • Responsibilities: Teach 1-3 hour lab; Promptly grade assignments and prepare for teaching responsibilities; 1 weekly office hour; proctor all exams; attend weekly staff meetings and beginning of the term training beginning Sunday, January 6th. Conflicts with training should be stated on your application and described in detail if possible.

Esteem Graduate Program

The ESTEEM Graduate Program is an 11-month master of science degree program at the University of Notre Dame that equips students from technical backgrounds with the skills and experience to launch new businesses. Over the course of a year, students are immersed in an entrepreneurial sandbox, where they get their hands dirty with innovation and launching new ventures through a cutting-edge curriculum, a capstone commercialization thesis for an emerging technology, and outstanding out-of-the-classroom experiences.

The Esteem Graduate Program offers an 86% placement rate at graduation and an average scholarship amount of 22.7 thousand dollars.

Ohio State Graduate and Professional School Fair

Wednesday, November 7, 4:30-6pm

The College of Arts and Sciences Student Council will host their 9th annual OSU Graduate and Professional School Fair on Wednesday, November 7th. Ohio State admissions representatives from 20+ different programs will attend. There will also be an ASC pre-law advisor, an ASC pre-health advisor and representatives from the Arts and Sciences Center for Career and Professional Success, Student Financial Aid, the Office of Graduate and Professional Admissions, and the Writing Center and Princeton Review in attendance.

This program is an option for Student Success Series credit.

Admission is free and refreshments will be provided. No RVSP necessary. This program is presented by the College of Arts and Sciences Student Council.

Purdue University Interdisciplinary Life Science Program

Purdue University Interdisciplinary Life Science Ph.D. Program (PULSe) is hosting a Fall Open House on Friday, November 2, 2018.

PULSe provides opportunities for an interdisciplinary graduate experience in basic life sciences for Ph.D. students. The program offers: flexibility through first-year laboratory rotations; team experience within interdisciplinary cohorts; world-class facilities and resources; and diverse research opportunities across multiple disciplines. PULSe is an interdisciplinary program that includes faculty members from 27 different departments/programs at Purdue. There are currently over 190 faculty in PULSe.

The Open House’s activities will include:

  • A “Meet the Faculty” Session – at the session, a panel of faculty members representing the PULSe Training Groups will give an informal presentation on their group and the research associated with it after which each faculty member will be available to speak one-on-one with interested students;
  • Student Lab Tours – current PULSe students will escort small groups of prospective students to and around their labs;
  • Lunch with Students – A number of current PULSe students meet with open house attendees over a meal in the Purdue Memorial Union to discuss their personal experiences with the PULSe program and at Purdue; and
  • A Facilities Tour – Attendees tour the Bindley Bioscience and Birck Nanotechnology Centers to see some of the research resources and facilities available at Purdue!

The event will start at 9:00am and end at 3:00pm at Purdue’s main campus in West Lafayette, Indiana. More information about the program and the Fall Open House is available on their respective websites.

MPA in Environmental Science and Policy

“A unique one-year program that prepares students, committed to environmental protection, for leadership positions in sustainability.”

 

Columbia University’s MPA in Environmental Science and Policy is the only public policy program in the country to anchor the study of sustainability policy and management in basic applied environmental science. In the one-year program, students learn basic applied environmental science, policy analysis, and management. The program emphasizes practical skills and hands-on learning. Graduates join an international network of alumni, who are making a real difference from positions in government, business, and civil society.

There will be an online information session on October 22.
