Year in Review

For my first year at OSU it was quite an interesting experience. First things first, I’m extremely grateful that I joined HSS in the first place. It helped me make all the close friends I have now and it honestly has helped set me up for the rest of my college career. There were many ups but also a few downs. Chemistry for example, was tough. I didn’t know how tough it’d be coming in but it was extremely difficult. If I had to give advice to an incoming student, I’d have to say time management is the most important thing you can learn. I didn’t handle my time exceptionally wisely but I did enough to accomplish what I wanted in that class. Overall the whole year is a grind. The toughest points for me was the initial transition into college and midway through second semester. Both those times for me were the toughest to find motivation. The initial transition was just a weird time and I didn’t know where to really go yet. The midway point of second semester was just a lull. Just keep grinding and going after it. Set goals. Stay on schedule. Those are the most important things to keep in mind throughout the year.

GOALS: Service

To achieve my twenty hours of service this year I did a variety of activities. In the first few weeks of school I volunteered along with many HSS students at an elementary school near campus. We helped them prepare for their school year by cleaning and setting up the classrooms. I also helped volunteer at a blood drive, taking names of people coming in and trying to advertise the blood drive outside the union with flyers. To get the majority of my service hours this year I volunteered as a youth basketball coach in my community near campus. I had practice for an hour every week and also had a game for an hour every weekend.

About Me

My name is John “Jack” Castetter and I am starting my first year at THE Ohio State University. I am from Columbus Ohio and grew up five minutes away from Ohio State. I graduated from Upper Arlington High School back in May. I have always been a huge OSU football fan and have been going to the games since I was six years old. I intend to major in Athletic Training with a plan to go to PT school once I graduate. I enjoy math and sciences the most out of all subjects. I love playing sports with friends, volunteering in my community, and helping out anywhere I can. I hope to continue my involvement in service at OSU and enjoy my time in Health Science Scholars.
