Fan Experience/ Social Media

For Brutus’ 50th Birthday Celebration, The Ohio State University will be celebrating Brutus’ 50th birthday all year long, highlighting the festivities at the November 7th home football game against Minnesota.  In preparation for the celebration, Ohio State will be giving away prizes to fans of Buckeye Nation who correctly answer Brutus Fun Fact trivia questions on various social media platforms.  Each week, the Department of Athletics will feature Instagram posts themed around ‘Mascot Mondays’ and ‘Throwback Thursdays’ of Brutus active on campus and in the community.  Additionally, a Brutus-themed cake contest the week before the Minnesota football game will take place, asking for fans to submit their most creatively designed cakes featuring Brutus.  At the home game versus Minnesota, attendees will have the chance to help Ohio State break and set the new Guinness World Record for the most people singing ‘Happy Birthday’ at one time.  The record-breaking game and celebration will be promoted on all social media accounts, encouraging high attendance and widespread birthday celebrations during the game.  On Snapchat year round, Brutus will have personally designed Geofilters allowing fans and students to submit pictures on their own stories featuring a “Happy Birthday Brutus” message and a Brutus birthday logo.
For Buckeyes Care, The Ohio State Department of Athletics will be rebranding the Buckeyes Care program this year.  Unifying all community service efforts by staff and student-athletes, Buckeyes Care will serve as the platform in which volunteers experiences will be documented.  Student-athletes will be interviewed for videos and press releases as well as post pictures to social media using the hashtag #BuckeyesCare.  Following a kickoff celebration at the Buckeye Bash, the month of September will debut as “Buckeyes Care Month” for members of the Department of Athletics.  There will be a competition amongst all varsity athletics programs to accumulate the most community service hours before the end of the month.  Buckeyes Care Month will culminate at the September 26th home football game, also the Scarlet and Gray student-athlete game, by honoring the team with the most community service hours for the month of September with a video feature and on-field recognition.  In the future, the Buckeyes Care program will continue to spread throughout Central Ohio, encouraging fans of Buckeye Nation and all people to engage in more community service activities to help create a better community.
